TITLE: CERTIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

LOCATION: Berkeley County Special Education Office

SALARY: Per the Berkeley County Schools Teacher Payscale with Years of experience and degree level

SUPERVISOR:Director or Assistant Superintendent of Special Education

EMPLOYMENT TERM: 200 days

Job Type Description Summary

A vacancy exists for an occupational therapist or COTA to provide related occupational therapy services. Qualifications include a West Virginia license as a Qualified Occupational Therapist or a West Virginia license as a Qualified Occupational Therapist Assistant.


The successful applicant will provide occupational therapy services such as evaluations screenings treatment/IEP development treatment implementation discharge planning and COTA supervision utilizing the educational model of services. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. Please see below attached full job description for full listing of responsibilities and expectations.

Salary Schedule
Berkeley County Schools Therapeutic and Diagnostic Services Index based on degree level and years of experience.

Specialized Skills
Minimum of Bachelor degree from an accredited occupational therapy program recognized by NBCOT

Initial certification by National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy

Current license in good standing with the West Virginia Board of Occupational Therapy

Experience as an occupational therapist in a pediatric setting or school system preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOther duties may be assigned.

  • Communicates collaborates and cooperates with colleagues multi-disciplinary team supervisors parents and students
  • Completes thorough and comprehensive occupational therapy evaluation through a variety of methods: standardized assessments skilled observation checklists interview etc.
  • Develops intervention plan based on the results of the evaluation student needs and educational model
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings to review evaluation results provide recommendations as needed based on team discussions and develop individual education plans
  • Provides direct occupational therapy services to students using evidence based practices and clinical judgement
  • Provides consultative occupational therapy services to students teachers and service personnel
  • Modifies and adapts the educational environment to enhance a students educational performance based on student needs (i.e. assistive technology staff training environmental modifications etc.)
  • Reassesses students performance and effects of services provided and makes changes to treatment plan as needed
  • Documents occupational therapy services provided efficiently and accurately.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of all aspects of the occupational therapy program (i.e. prioritizing schedules managing inventory of equipment and assessments etc.)
  • Adheres to federal and state legislation that affect occupational therapy practice
  • Adheres to county/school system policies and regulations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides supervision of certified occupational therapy assistants and occupational therapy support personnel based on West Virginia Board of Occupational Therapy guidelines.
