Job Description

Position can be filled in any Zenith Branch.

This role is eligible to participate in Zeniths hybrid work schedule which provides the flexibility to work from home on select days of the week according to the in-office schedule established by regional executive leadership.

The Director Underwriting Operations is responsible for managing all Zenith Underwriting Operations Managers. In collaboration with corporate and regional branch office partners the position will make recommendations to develop and maintain a streamlined underwriting support organizational structure to enhance cross-regional support for the business.

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Sets performance expectations and provides ongoing feedback to direct reports.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews on direct reports.
  • Participates in hiring decisions coaching and disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Maintains strategic oversight of all key duties and processes related to underwriting support operations including referral assignments submissions renewals policy issuance and agency management support.
  • Ensures national consistency related to accuracy completeness and compliance with underwriting decisions.
  • Implements quality assurance measures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of underwriting data documentation and policy issuance.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement implements best practices and optimizes workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepares and presents regular reports on underwriting operations activities performance metrics and trends.
  • Monitors industry trends regulatory changes and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for operational enhancements.
  • Develops and implements training programs for the underwriting operations teams ensuring continuous learning and skill enhancement.
  • Develops implements and documents underwriting support policies and procedures.
  • Maintains proactive involvement in project activities providing subject matter expertise on process and system changes.
  • Partners with Underwriting Managers internal and external stakeholders to address inquiries provide support and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key business unit stakeholders.
  • Works productively and harmoniously with others on a consistent basis.
  • Responds positively to direction and feedback on performance.
  • Consistently maintains professional and appropriate demeanor.
  • Performs other duties/projects as assigned.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of training/experience required
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent insurance industry experience required

Experience Qualifications

  • 5 Years workers compensation underwriting experience required
  • 3 Years supervisory/management experience required
  • Manage underwriting support staff experience preferred
  • Implementation and delivery of improvement initiatives preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of workers compensation underwriting support staff functions (e.g. policy rules)
  • Demonstrated ability to influence change and people that resulted in positive outcomes related to goals and objectives
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address operational challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Demonstrated time management organizational and collaborative skills
  • Excellent managerial skills and the ability to provide effective coaching and feedback
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills

The expected salary range for this position is $103740.94 to $129676.18. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience geographic location and other job-related factors as permitted by law. Qualifications may warrant placement in a different job level.
