The Orthopedics Department Lennar Medical Center has an exciting opportunity for a full time The Clinic Athletic Trainer 3.
SUMMARY
The Clinic Athletic Trainer 3 (H) works as an athletic trainer in a physician practice and may be assigned to various locations and providers within the Department of Orthopedics to assist with the care of patients. The Clinic Athletic Trainer 3 (H) has direct patient contact under the supervision of an attending surgeon for the evaluation and treatment of medical and musculoskeletal pathology. The Clinic Athletic Trainer 3 (H) possesses the clinical evaluation and educational skills expected of an athletic trainer to effectively provide patient-centered care.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of patients with acute chronic or potential injuries and illnesses.
Take a thorough history including but not limited to: chief complaint vitals pain score mechanism of injury past medical history and review of systems.
Perform an appropriate physical examination including but not limited to: range of motion testing strength/manual muscle testing neurovascular and sensation testing palpation special and ligamentous testing and functional testing. Present cases to attending physicians including any available imaging results.
Accurately and appropriately transcribe enter and/or execute standing orders at the direction of the supervising physician within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice including but not limited to: radiographs MRIs EMGs CT scans ultrasounds physical therapy injection procedures braces lab work medication and physician referrals.
Provide patient education including answering questions and instructing on rehabilitation exercises.
Fit patients with splints crutches braces wraps and other orthopaedic appliances/DMEs and educate on proper use. Provide proper information to bracing company for billing.
Perform wound care gait training and casting application and removal. Remove sutures and provide dressing changes to post-operative patients.
Aid the supervising physician in preparing for and administering injections including but not limited to timeouts preparing and securing signatures on patient informed consents and preparing supplies.
Complete procedure booking sheets prior to procedure at the attendings direction and serve as liaison between patient attending and procedure coordinator.
Communicate with patients other staff and providers regarding patient care and questions and document in electronic medical record.
Assist attending physicians with paperwork for patients such as medical leave forms or workers compensation physicians in developing criteria for appropriate patients and guide patient access representatives to schedule patients accordingly. Filter clinic schedules based on criteria.
Assist physicians and clinic staff with filing charges billing and insurance authorizations including pre-authorization and retro-authorization and appeals as needed.
Schedules patient appointments adds/removes/edit appointment slots and edits appointment notes
Serve as a liaison and Preceptor mentor and/or supervisor for students observing shadowing and obtaining clinical experience in sports medicine.
Department Additional functions:
This athletic trainer serves as a key liaison for the practice of an attending surgeon or the practice of a satellite location.
This athletic trainer may be assigned to various locations and providers within the Department of Orthopaedics to assist with the care of patients
Assists with clinic closures and reschedules by contacting patients and rescheduling appointments
Answers patient questions regarding surgery post-operative recovery and rehabilitation protocols
Facilitates referrals to and from assigned providers
This athletic trainer serves as a key liaison for the practice of the Chief of the Foot & Ankle division Department of Orthopaedics

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelors degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Must be BOC certified and possess state athletic training licensure certification or registration.
NPI number required.
American Heart Association BLS Certification also required.
Experience:
3 or more years of relevant experience.
Knowledge Skills and Attitudes:
Applied knowledge: athletic trainers must have knowledge about a large range of medical problems. Assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be needed.
Decision-making skills: ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding assessment treatment and rehabilitation decisions per state licensure guidelines.
Attention to detail: should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
Interpersonal skills: ability to communicate effectively in high-stress/pressure situations when talking to patients medical professionals staff and families.
Must have the ability to organize prioritize and perform multiple tasks.
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
