Library Archives Assistant

Library Broussard Family Library and Learning Commons BL 201 FVCC Kalispell Campus
ELIGIBILITY:
Students must be Work Study Eligible (as determined by Financial Aid)

This position will start Fall Semester 2025
LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT:
Academic Calendar Year 2025/2026
PAY RANGE:
$14.00 to $15.00 per hour depending on experience
WORK SCHEDULE:
Flexible schedule Monday through Sunday with varied hours including evenings and weekends depending on student schedule. This position may work up to 19 hours per week.
DRESS CODE:
Casual wear with appropriate coverage
POSITION PURPOSE/ROLE:
Supports the Library operations by providing technical and general assistance with the FVCC Archives
POSITION DUTIES:
Provides general services and technical assistance within the FVCC Archives
Duties may include:
- Assists with organizing processing describing and preserving archival collections
- Ensures the security and proper handling of archival materials
- Assist in the digitization and scanning of materials
- Add metadata about individual items
- Organizes and arranges archival and manuscript material in alphabetical chronological or other appropriate orders
- Performs routine procedures to arrange for preservation of the materials
- Rehousing of archival content
- Creation of digital assets
- Create folder lists using Microsoft Word Excel or other computer programs
- Labeling collections handwritten and typed
- Assist with creating descriptive data for the collection
- Occasionally conduct research relevant to the collection
- Provides general information on Library policies and procedures
- Performs filing and data processing as necessary
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current FVCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits per semester and
- Ability to do mundane and detailed tasks with accuracy and
- Basic computer and internet skills such as typing attaching documents to emails printing etc. including Microsoft Word and Excel and
- Clear legible handwriting and
- Ability to provide quality customer service and interact in a professional manner and ability to positively work with students faculty staff and community partners and
- Ability to work independently with a minimal level of supervision as well as in a team environment and
- Ability to problem-solve and be self-motivated and
- Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and
- Desire and willingness to learn new software programs and technology skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience working in a library museum or archives
- A strong commitment to historic preservation
- Familiarity with library resources and basic research skills
- Interest in local history or history
STUDENT SKILL DEVELOPMENT:
Communication skills critical thinking effective reasoning planning technology social responsibility
PREDICTED OUTCOME:

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES:
- Students must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits for fall or spring semester to qualify for student employment.
- Students may not work beyond 19 hours per week during semester.
- Student workers shall be actively engaged; no use of cell phones (except in case of emergency) or social media.
- Student workers shall demonstrate a commitment to the job with adherence to work schedule effective communication/interpersonal skills and quality customer service skills to be a representative of FVCC.
