Job Description
Wellesley Middle School is seeking a 1.0FTE Grade 8 Science Teacher. The job responsibilities include teaching four sections of grade 8 science a 15-minute daily advisory one daily intervention period with students from the teacher team and attendance at meetings. In Wellesley Middle School the grade 8 curriculum includes units from physical science and Earth science. Specifically the qualified candidate is able to deliver units on physical and chemical changes and properties heat heat transfer weather climate factors and plate tectonics along with other related topics. The candidate will teach content while also developing skills such as reading and writing using and interpreting models making and interpreting graphs and lab safety and precision with procedures. Additionally we seek an educator who is excited about project based learning and involving the community where possible.
We seek applicants who can:
- Develop meaningful relationships with students so that students are motivated and excited about learning.
- Knowledgeable about the grade 8 science standards and able to deliver the content at a level and pace appropriate for 8th grade students.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students and is able to differentiate lesson plans and materials for diverse learners.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
- Use routine cycles of assessment to assess proficiency in the state standards and content skills.
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and curriculum.
- Collaborate positively with other team members in support of student success and well-being.
