BUSINESS FUNCTION: Safety
GRADE: ML1/SB3
SALARY:Circa 46000 per annum
ROLE TYPE: Hybrid - you will be required to travel across the network as and when required.

Are you passionate about operational safety and ready to make a real difference At Northern were building a stronger safer railway and were looking for a skilled and proactive Platform Train Interface (PTI) Manager to join us.

In this pivotal role youll lead safety improvements across our stations trains and platforms with a particular focus on the platform-train interface and the Automatic Selective Door Operation (ASDO) system. Youll work with a wide range of teams and have the opportunity to travel extensively across the North of England making an impact where it matters most.

This is more than just a desk-based role its about being present visible and hands-on around our network guiding best practice and helping embed a strong safety culture from the ground up.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Lead the development and delivery of safety standards relating to the platform-train interface and ASDO system across operational engineering station control and estates teams.
  • Train coach and support local managers to improve safety awareness and ensure compliance with safety management procedures.
  • Conduct and manage risk assessments safety audits and reviews ensuring PTI and ASDO safety standards are effective and up to date.
  • Act as Northerns subject matter expert for PTI and ASDO representing the business in industry forums and implementing best practice.
  • Support accident and incident investigations and contribute to a strong forward-looking operational risk management strategy.

About You

  • A confident approachable communicator who can influence engage and challenge colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong experience in railway operations with in-depth understanding of the platform-train interface and ASDO systems.
  • Competence as either a Conductor or Dispatcher is desirable
  • Hold or be working towards qualifications including the NEBOSH General Certificate IOSH Managing Safely and internal auditing/assessor accreditation.
  • Organised self-motivated and comfortable travelling across the North of England as part of a hands-on field-based role.
  • Please note: This role is safety critical and will require passing a Safety Critical Medical.
