Job Description:
Accountabilities:
Program
- Assist with community-based programs (such as foodbank vouchers seniors programs youth programs music programs seasonal celebrations (Easter Thanksgiving Christmas) summer camps vacation bible school Christmas assistance.
- Look for ways to connect the community with the church community.
- Assist with outreach programs in the community.
Church Ministry
- Assists in ministry with Corps Officers (Pastors) contributing to the spiritual and pastoral development of individuals associated with the church through mentoring discipleship encouraging Chrisitan attributes.
- Assists in developing implementing and evaluating programs / ministries for church and community.
- Active member of the congregation and participates in Sunday Worship which may include leading worship preaching and praying as requested by Corps Officers (Pastors).
- Creates opportunities for Youth to be engaged in worship
- Follow up with youth who attend The Salvation Army Summer Camp to build relationships and establish active links with the Church and its mission and Ministries.
- Strategizes creative ideas for youth programming.
- Supports integrated mission connecting community with Church.
Volunteer Management
- Recruit volunteers for events and activity efforts as well as all necessary support resources and supplies.
- Support Community Ministry volunteers in completion of responsibilities relating to programs.
- Ensure ongoing volunteer training including orientation of new volunteers.
Administrative
- Maintain records and provide program evaluations and/or statistical information as required by DHQ/THQ; includes maintain Link2Feed.
- Perform administrative tasks that support program objectives.
- Provide input into the program budget; in collaboration with the Corps Officers ensuring diligent stewardship of resources.
- Ensure all donated items are safely and accurately handled.
- Attend meetings as required by the Corps Officers
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Provide input to the program annual budget in collaboration with the Corps Officers
- May handle some petty cash including program donations and credit cards.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a full-time position at 35 hours per week. Schedule is Sunday Tuesday thru Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm with a 30 minute unpaid meal break
- Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
- Able to lift up to 20 lbs or up to 50 lbs with assistance of others.
- Travel within the city may be required.
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends to meet program needs.
- Flexibility in work schedule may be required based on programming schedules and client availability.
Education and experience Qualifications:
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
- The successful job applicant will have completed post-secondary diploma in human services or social services or equivalent of at least two academic years.
- Post secondary religious studies are a strong asset. Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Minimum one year of experience in a ministry setting.
- Three (3) years of prior related experience.
- Experience in supervisory capacity and/or volunteer management.
- Music knowledge. The ability to play a musical instrument would be an asset.
- Understanding for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of the standards policies and procedures of The Salvation Army or willingness to learn it within the first 3 months after hiring.
- Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission culture and values.
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

- Ability to use graphic design skills to upload and promote videos and posters.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Adhere to all Salvation Army policies directives and operating guidelines.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training and willingness to learn and develop skills.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers License current copy of drivers abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required.
- Original copy of a Background check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required.
- Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry is required.
- Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation:
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
