Job Description

Marion County requires on-site work. Remote work is not available.

THIS POSITION IS GRANT FUNDED. CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT IN THIS POSITION WILL BE BASED ON WHETHER OR NOT GRANT FUNDING IS AVAILABLE.

The Marion County District Attorneys Office is responsible for seeking justice through:

  • Promoting accountability for criminal offenders.
  • Interpreting enforcing and executing law.
  • Responding to the concerns of victims and the public; and
  • Working cooperatively with members of the justice system.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Provide services to victims and witnesses of crimes while performing advocacy duties for victims within the criminal justice juvenile delinquency and dependency systems. May coordinate a program encompassing community volunteers to provide advocate services to victims of crimes.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work under general supervision of the Victim Assistance Program Manager who assigns work sets goals and reviews for conformance to policy and procedures.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification. However the incumbent may act as a lead worker over volunteers which may include reviewing work organizing planning and scheduling work assignments and providing training.

Typical Duties - Duties include but are not limited to the following

This position provides services to monolingual Spanish-speaking clients; therefore fluent bilingual Spanish/English skills are required.

Community Engagement

  • Develop materials needed for victim services outreach work.
  • Plan for and set up community outreach events.
  • Contacts and coordinates with partner agencies as needed for event planning.
  • Arrange for all logistics of outreach events.
  • Facilitates and conducts victim service outreach work to underserved populations with an emphasis on the Latinx community.

Case Work Supervision

  • Reviews reports and analyze Felony and misdemeanor cases for assignment determination.
  • Assigns cases to volunteers and staff advocates.
  • Develops case plan with volunteers and staff advocates.
  • Supervises and manages volunteers and staff advocates casework.
  • Assists in supervision and evaluation of volunteers.
  • Provides staff advocate feedback to the Victim Assistance Manager

Victim Assistance

  • Backs-up volunteers on their cases
  • Manages own caseload.
  • Provides direct advocacy to victims.
  • Communicates by speaking reading and writing in English and Spanish
  • Provides court accompaniment.
  • Maintains and updates all case files.
  • Provides victim notification in person by phone and mail.
  • Provides 24 hour on call response.

Participates in Relevant Multi-Disciplinary Teams.

Maintains and updates records and information.

Complies organizes and tracks grant data and reports along with monthly reports.

Attends and participates in staff meetings volunteer activities and trainings.

Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.


Requirements for the Position

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  1. Associate degree in criminal justice law enforcement social science social work or related field; AND
  2. Two years of advocacy experience in the program specialty area including experiencecoordinating cross-agency collaboration with multiple community partners; OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of work education training or experience relevant to the position as determined by Marion County.

PREFERENCES
Individuals with experience or training in the DHS-child welfare system the juvenile dependency process.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ANDABILITIES
Working knowledge of the criminal justice system court proceedings and the legal system in the District Attorneys office; supervising or leading volunteers; managing a volunteer program; motivating and coaching techniques.

Ability and skill to prepare reports and correspondence; track statistical data for grant requirements; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; respond effectively in crisis situations with a prejudice and judgment-free attitude; make appropriate referrals to community resources for direct service; work with individuals and agencies with a variety of backgrounds and purposes; ability to articulate and express thoughts in the language understood by those being addressed (includes people at all educational levels and in all walks of life and cultural groups); recruit organize train and supervise a volunteer staff working in the areas of crisis intervention and counseling; conduct public speaking and training engagements; coordinate and collaborate with system partners to create an appropriate response for victims; establish and maintain professional effective and collaborative working relationships with the public co-workers volunteers courts and other agencies; operate a computer; operate an automobile.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Drives a motor vehicle in the performance of duties; uses depth perception; reads a 12 pt. font; distinguishes colors and shades; speaks with a clear and audible voice; hears a normal speech level; sits; moves about the work area; uses hands and fingers to grasp and manipulate objects; operates a computer; bends; reaches overhead; lifts up to 15 lbs.; pushes/pulls up to 50 lbs.; uses office chemicals such as toner; traverses wet and uneven terrain; responds to calls in all weather conditions.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program full-time employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Questions about your loan eligibility should be directed to your loan servicer or the US Department of Education.

VISA SPONSORSHIP
Marion County does not offer VISA sponsorship. Within three days of hireyou will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Securitys I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States.
