Description

Position Summary

Director Small Business Development Center develops and administers the functions of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Provides business advising training customized trainings and resources to business clients. Advocates regionally and statewide for small businesses. Assists College administration to meet the needs of the communities served. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC and the Oregon Small Business Development Center Network Mission Vision and Strategic Plans.

Essential Job Functions

  • Create a vision for and implement the Colleges SBDC programs and services throughout the contracted service areas.
  • Plan develop schedule and implement educational classes seminars
  • workshops or conferences specifically related to the management of small businesses and
  • specifically for an audience of small business owners and managers in its service area.
  • Training will provide advice guidance and instruction to groups of prospective and existing
  • small business persons and entities related to starting growing managing and exiting a
  • small business. Training may be delivered in person online and/or through
  • correspondence.
  • Support the goals of the Oregon SBDC and manages BMCCs SBDC in accordance with BMCCs contract for services.
  • Work with the Office of Instruction to promote curriculum and community education programs that benefit the SBDC.
  • Budgets and administers all SBDC revenues and expenditures including all funding sources: College federal state sponsor moneys and program fees.
  • Recruits and manages full-time and part-time SBDC staff advisors instructors and volunteers which includes writing job descriptions hiring contracting training evaluating disciplining separating and assigning job duties.
  • Promotes curriculum programs and services that serve all members of the service area.
  • Annually participate in Oregon SBDC Network approved training and attend meetings with Oregon SBDC Lead Office as directed.
  • The SBDC will maintain a Small Business Advisory Council predominantly made up ofsmall business owners from its service area that meets formally a minimum of twice per year. Primary functions of the Council include providing an external perspective and insight critical to identifying issues assessing needs and the planning review and development of programs; providing an important link between the SBDC and the local business community; providing an effective advocacy network for the SBDC; and assisting in major fund-raising efforts.
  • Works as a member of the BMCC team to ensure community needs are being met.
  • Ensures and promotes health and safety in the workplace and a welcoming supportive and respectful work environment for staff.
  • Plans and implements marketing strategies for all SBDC programs and services including print electronic and broadcast media media relations networking and presentations.
  • Seeks and applies for grants relevant to entrepreneurship and small business development.
  • Negotiates funding and performance outcomes with federal state regional local and corporate partners.
  • Provides technical assistance advising and training directly and through SBDC staff to small business owners and their key employees.
  • Collaborates to offer services with other public and private small business technical assistance providers.
  • Surveys small business needs and best practices collects analyzes and uses market research as basis for developing programs and services.
  • Works with the President and other administrators of the College to secure business community support for the College.
  • Collaborates with career technical apprenticeship and other instructional departments to develop and deliver education and training designed to meet small business development demands.
  • Designs and deploys technology to leverage development and delivery of SBDC training.
  • Develops and administers strategic plans and budgets for effective use of resources in programs within scope of authority.
  • Represents the BMCC SBDC as member of local regional and statewide boards committees and professional organizations.
  • Initiates new SBDC programs and program modifications as needed.
  • Participates on College committees as needed. Willingness to serve on committees task forces work groups etc. as requested by College administration.
  • Works flexible hours and travels within service area state and occasionally out-of-state.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Aspects of this Position

  • Ability to travel around the district and meet with clients at their business sites; travel to other centers when needed; and professional development events valid drivers license required.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess the following knowledge skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of entrepreneurial business management marketing finance product development and human capital development.
  • Ability to design and evaluate educational programs and evaluate instructor performance.
  • Working knowledge of computer-based management information systems and ability to effectively use PC and server-based business software to design develop and deliver SBDC and college programs and services.
  • Excellent management organizational supervisory and participatory leadership skills including the ability to assess problem situations and resolve them quickly and effectively.
  • Superior oral interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed strategic thinking and conceptual skills that facilitate planning and results.
  • Management of multiple tasks effective prioritization and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Team player in a collaborative collegial environment.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in business-related field.
  • Experience as previous or current business owner.
  • Experience with current instructional technologies curriculum development and assessment techniques.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in business-related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of work experience with a for profit organization
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) speaking reading and writing ability.

Pay: $68000.00 - $75000.00 DOE
