Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Assistant Supervisor of Building Repairs the Repairer performs a variety of routine basic maintenance and repair tasks involved with carpentry painting plumbing steam fitting electrical and mechanical.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Repairs plumbing stoppages and repairs minor leaks.
Replaces washers and gaskets and makes general service repairs.
Replaces light bulbs wall plates switches and outlets.
Changes lubricant belts and filters and performs light maintenance work on mechanical equipment.
Repairs damaged walls and ceiling and floor tiles.
Checks exit and emergency lights for proper operation. Replaces bulbs and battery packs as necessary.
Performs routine preventive maintenance work.
Performs duties on all buildings on campus and all exterior features on campus.
Uses work orders and fills in all pertinent information.
Follows all safety procedures including wearing uniform and appropriate protective personal equipment (PPE).
Ensures that all staff and customers are treated with respect and courtesy.
Greets all customers and answers questions as needed advise of any necessary information.
Utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized management information systems used by the FM & E department.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
One (1) year of professional experience in performing general maintenance repair work.
Valid NJ Drivers License
Knowledge of standard tools materials and methods.
Ability to work with diverse populations and in a team is a must.
Ability to demonstrate comprehension in speaking and reading English with proficiency to perform duties of position.
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
Availability to work all shifts weekends and holidays.
PREFERRED:
High School Diploma or GED.
Ability to analyze/trouble shoot problems.
*NOTE: This is a Civil Service position. As required by the State of New Jersey in order to be certified to the position and attain permanent status in title candidates are required to successfully serve a 4-Month Working Test Period.
This position is designated as essential. The designation of essential requires employees at these 24/7 facilities to be present due to inclement weather situations. This position requires on campus work and is not a position that allows remote work.
SALARY RANGE: O11: $39286.15- $54823.30 *NOTE: Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New Jersey Civil Service Commissions formula. Salaries for external candidates are determined up to step four $44465.20.
