Job Description Summary
Research Assistant will work primarily at Rinker Campus (Chapman University) for 19 hours per week with Dr. RahulSoangra affiliated with Fowler school of Engineering and Department of Physical Therapy. The RA Staff will be funded by aNIH funded project and will be expected to develop machine learning models and embed models in smartphones. RA isexpected to collect data from human subjects and process data. Stroke patients using smartphone sensors. New ML modelswill be investigated for modeling stroke ADL . The role involves implementing data collection protocols ensuring compliancewith HIPAA regulations and IRB -approved procedures and assisting with participant recruitment. The ideal candidate willhave experience with human subject data collection and a strong background in biomedical engineering motion capture technology and data processing.
Responsibilities
The creation and interpretation of new knowledge through original research or other advanced scholarship or of a quality to satisfy peer review extend the forefront of the discipline and merit publication. A systematic acquisition and understanding of a substantial body of knowledge which is at the forefront of an academic discipline or an area of professional practice. The general ability to conceptualize design and implement a project for the generation of new knowledge. Applications or understanding at the forefront of the discipline and to adjust the project design in the light of unforeseen problems. Conduct data collection sessions with stroke survivors using wearable sensors motion capture systems and physiological monitoring tools. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and IRB -approved protocols for participant recruitment data handling and confidentiality. Process and analyze kinematic kinetic and physiological datasets using MATLAB Python or R. Assist in the development of machine learning models and statistical methods for predicting rehabilitation outcomes. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to interpret findings and contribute to research publications. Lead or co-author journal articles and conference papers contributing to scientific literature in biomechanics rehabilitation and wearable technology.
Required Qualifications
Must have applied knowledge of programming in MATLAB Python App (iOS and Android) 3-D printing Experience in Gait Lab and GRAIL lab and wearable sensors Strong analytical skills human subject handling Demonstrated ability to work independently
