POSITION: Medical Assistant

FLSA: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

PROGRAM: Clinic

SUPERVISOR: Clinic Administrator

WORK HOURS: Monday-Friday. Some evenings and weekends may be required.

Job Description:

Our non-profit clinic dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence and their children is seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Assistant you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality healthcare services to individuals and families who have experienced domestic violence. Your expertise and empathy will contribute to their physical and emotional well-being ensuring they receive the care they need in a safe and supportive environment.

Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care: Assist healthcare providers in delivering comprehensive medical care to victims of domestic violence and their children including but not limited to physical examinations vital signs assessment wound care and medication administration.

2. Pediatric Care: Support healthcare providers in providing age-appropriate care to children affected by domestic violence including monitoring growth and development administering vaccines and assisting with pediatric procedures.

3. Medical Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential electronic medical records documenting patient encounters treatment plans and follow-up care. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinic protocols.

4. Supportive Services: Collaborate with counselors social workers and other support staff to provide holistic care to patients and their children. Coordinate referrals to external resources such as counseling services and community healthcare partners as needed.

5. Medical Equipment and Supplies: Prepare examination rooms sterilize equipment and ensure availability of necessary medical supplies. Monitor inventory and assist with ordering supplies to maintain adequate stock levels.

Responsibilities Continued:

6. Patient Education: Assist in providing health education to patients and their children including self-care techniques medication administration and strategies for managing their health conditions. Provide guidance on domestic violence prevention safety planning and available resources.

7. Clinic Support: Assist with front desk duties including scheduling appointments verifying insurance coverage and managing patient flow. Support administrative tasks such as data entry phone inquiries and maintaining a welcoming clinic environment.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

1. Education: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent certification.

2.: Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a clinical setting as a Medical Assistant.

3. Clinical Skills: Proficiency in conducting basic medical procedures such as taking vital signs performing venipuncture administering injections and providing wound care. Knowledge of pediatric healthcare is desirable.

4. Empathy and Sensitivity: Demonstrated ability to interact with individuals who have experienced trauma with compassion sensitivity and respect for their privacy and confidentiality.

5. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate medical information and instructions to patients and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

6. Organization and Efficiency: Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.

7. Cultural Competence: Understanding and appreciation for diverse backgrounds and cultures. Sensitivity to the unique needs and challenges faced by victims of domestic violence and their children.

8. Technology: Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and basic computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience: Prior experience working as an LVN in a healthcare setting preferably in a community health clinic serving a diverse population of men women and children is highly desirable.

2. Bilingual Skills: Fluency in languages other than English especially languages commonly spoken by the local community is an asset.

3. Crisis Intervention Training: Training or certification in crisis intervention trauma-informed care or related fields would be advantageous.

This is a full-time position and the working hours may include some evenings and weekends depending on the clinics operating hours. The salary and benefits package will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
