The position will manage the Aesthetics Engineering Section functions for: Design and Development Scenic Byways Roadside Environmental Planning & Roadside Visualization. This is a multi-faceted position which requires the ability of program management knowledge of roadway and structural engineering design principles knowledge of State/Federal highway Legislative policies & statutes environmental engineering architecture and public involvement. Position requires proficiency in MicroStation GIS Arc Map Micro Station 3D Sketchup Photoshop Extended and GPS Mapping. Position must be capable of interpreting and explaining highway legislative statutes for the creation of unique highway developmental policies and special events able to develop guidance for highway activities along North Carolina Scenic Byways production of projects for context sensitive design environmental and historic mitigation property settlements Welcome/Rest Area Construction and creation of 2D/3D Simulations for public involvement.
These responsibilities include performing complex engineering design/reviews of NCDOT roadway and structural design components planning construction and maintenance for aesthetic components of roadways and bridges on a statewide basis. This position requires the individual to coordinate with other NCDOT units the Federal Highway Administration Department of Commerce local governments civic groups environmental regulatory agencies and other State agencies to achieve schedule goals proper design and acceptable solutions. The position requires the individual to provide rapid response to projects with identified social economic or other critical program needs. This requires providing assistance to project personnel on the project site and meeting with planning design and regulatory staff to resolve critical issues.
This position provides technical assistance for the Chief Engineers Office Planning Development & Environmental Assessment Unit Bridge Management Roadway Design Unit Construction Unit Roadside Environmental Unit 14 Highway Divisions local governments and civic groups.

Bachelors degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
