This position is located at:
11 W. Jones St.Raleigh NC 27601Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose oftheGraphic Designer is to function as a lead designer for Museum event promotions. Developing designing and overseeing the production of visual communications that are targeted to the public for the Museum and its regional networks. The position designs primary marketing and development materials on the web and in print as well as small- and large-scale Museum communications materials. The position works collaboratively with the Head of Graphic Design and the C&M team to ensure that all visual communications maintain a consistency in accordance with the graphic standards and visual identity of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design and produce promotional and educational materials for the Museum across various media platforms using high-level research artistic and technical skills including use of various creative software hand-rendering illustration layout and typographic design while working on multiple projects concurrently. Scope of work consists of but is not limited to e-newsletters posters brochures flyers advertising development and fundraising communications web and social media graphics motion graphics corporate identity and all other collateral materials used in promoting the Museum in visual and editorial formats such as catalogs brochures books magazines banners web pages logos invitations posters advertising teaching aids and exhibits.
- Design time-based media using industry standard software for communication and marketing purposes (e.g. animated GIFs program visual introductions commercials etc.).
- Translate visible imagery for print and digital media in appropriate sizes and formats.
- Consult with internal clients (e.g. Special Events Education Exhibitions Scientists and Researchers Whiteville and Prairie Ridge) to determine project parameters such as purpose audience conceptual focus method scope and cost options and advise them on a range of options for the visualization and communication of information.
- Design and develop cohesive branded elements for special exhibitions educational materials events various programming Museum documents and forms.
- Create comps of main ideas for visual imagery campaigns and materials; Consider and evaluate appropriate feedback to revise comps accordingly.
- Collaborate with Marketing & Communications Team to determine appropriate visual imagery.
Position/Physical Requirements:
- Must be available to work Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm.

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:
- Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop Illustrator and InDesign Acrobat Premier and/or AfterEffects software)
- Demonstrated experience in various methods used for design and delivery of marketing materials (digital or print).
- Thorough technical knowledge of overall design concepts including details such as digital imagery: DPI resolution photo retouching and editing; typography and/or color theory.
- Thorough knowledge in graphic design processes concepts and organizational principles as well as visual art elements in illustration layout and/or typography.
- Working knowledge of animation concepts editing experience and/or visual storytelling techniques in digital time-based media.

The States museum devoted to science and nature North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in central Raleigh is the largest institution of its kind in the Southeastern United States and with over a million visitors a year the states most visited museum. Its 300000 square foot downtown campus is augmented by Prairie Ridge Ecostation and satellite facilities in Whiteville Greenville and Contentnea Creek. Together they provide a variety of curriculum-focused classes onsite offsite outdoors and online for pre-kindergarten through graduate students across the state.
