King County Metro Transits Rail Division seeks an outstanding Project Management professional to become the next Special Duty AssignmentRail Resource Coordinator (Program/Project Manager II) on theSystem Expansionteam.

Job Summary
Metro Transits Rail Division collaborates with Sound Transit to operate Light Rail service. Managing and coordinating resources for expansion testing and construction is accomplished through System Expansion Resource Requests (SERR). Under the direction of the Operations Expansion and Maintenance Expansion Managers this position will coordinate incoming requests as part of the review/approval process for all resources requests. The Rail Resource Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and appropriate access to the Right of Way by reviewing preparing and managing requests for access to conduct maintenance and repair of facilities within the Right of Way and ensuring all requests are received reviewed and completed in a timely organized and successful manner. The individual in this position coordinates information concerning requests between King County Metro Rail Sound Transit and contractors.

This recruitment will be used to fill oneSpecial Duty Assignment (SDA) vacancy for 6 months (with possibility of extension) and is open to current Career Service King County employees within the Rail division who have completed their initial probationary period.

About Link Light Rail
King County Metro Transits Rail Division manages and maintains Sound Transits Link light rail service and City of Seattles streetcar system. Link light rail currently spans a 33-mile route from SeaTac to Lynnwood and a 6.6-mile route from Redmond to South Bellevue. By the end of 2026 light rail is projected to expand to nearly 60 route miles adding seven new stations. Additional expansions to the Link system will be coming online for years to come.

Seattle Streetcar includes the 1.3 mile South Lake Union line and the 2.5 mile First Hill line proudly serving the diverse and vibrant communities around Seattles downtown core. These rail services complement Metros extensive fixed-route bus system and mobility services. Puget Sound transit agencies are collaborating to create an integrated transit network that enables people to travel farther faster and more easily.

We are looking for candidates who possess theseminimumqualifications:

The most competitive applicants for this position will also possess these desirable qualifications:
  • One year (or more) of project and/or process management experience including initiating planning executing controlling and closing out the work of a team to achieve specific goals and meet specific pre-determined success criteria within a specified timeframe OR equivalent knowledge/experience to be successful in this role.
  • Previous experience with project coordination related to mobility
  • Knowledge of Metro Transit Rail Operations
  • Intermediate or advanced proficiency with MS office suite particularly Outlook Word SharePoint and Excel
  • Proficiency in online meeting platforms such as MS Teams Zoom and other similar programs
  • Possess a valid Washington state drivers license (or ability to obtain Washington state drivers license upon hire) or alternate ability to travel to off-site locations

Supplemental Information

Work Schedule and Location:
This Project/Program Manager II position is an overtime-eligible position that is subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00AM 3:30PM although work may need to be performed outside of business hours when required. This position offers a hybrid work schedule that combines telecommuting with occasional on-site work at the Operations and Maintenance Facility-Central (3407 Airport Way S Seattle WA) Operations and Maintenance Facility East (th Ave NE Bellevue WA) and other locations.

Teleworking Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly through telework onsite work and meetings. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. King County has a robust collection of
tools and resources to support working remotely.

Employees will be provided with a Sound Transit issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
