The idea was to create a unique delivery model in our approach to early childhood development by using underutilized housing stock to create early child and family centers in neighborhoods. Brilliant Detroit homes provide holistic services for kids 0-8 predicated on evidence-based programs around health family support and education. Brilliant Detroit was born to create kid success neighborhoods. Today in each location neighbors come together for fellowship activities and learning to assure school readiness and provide needed support for families.
Position Description The Brilliant Detroit Community Engagement Intern will provide support for educational programming and events at one of our Brilliant Detroit locations. The Community Engagement Intern will gain valuable experience in the fields of outreach and engagement community organizing data management communications event and program facilitation scheduling and logistical coordination nonprofit management and more. Working at Brilliant Detroit will offer the intern the opportunity to work in a small evolving non-profit organization. Activities and Responsibilities: - Assist in the planning coordination and execution of our Summer Camp programming for youth K-3rd grade.
- Support Community Engagement staff with in person or virtual outreach efforts.
- Assist with digital engagement to reach a broader audience.
- Capture and input key performance indicators into our database for current or future grant funding and compliance.
- Assist with new participant intakes and help maintain up-to-date family engagement records.
- Plan promote and help facilitate community programs and events (virtual and in-person).
- Provide logistical support including setup breakdown and material distribution at events or programs (requires lifting up to 30 lbs).
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance engagement strategies.
- Support the preparation of reports presentations and meeting minutes.
- Conduct research to improve community engagement strategies and program effectiveness.
- Conduct short surveys and/or interviews to assess program impact and participant outcomes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills: - Reliable transportation required.
- Comfortable interacting with diverse communities families and young children.
- May require lifting and/or moving boxes and materials up to 30 lbs.
- Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent customer service skills and interacts with staff vendors volunteers and participants in a warm and friendly manner.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Can prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to support reports transcribe minutes from meetings create presentations and conduct research as requested.
- Comfortable using Google Suite Zoom and other virtual platforms preferred.
- Experience working with families and young children is preferred.
- Proficiency in English required; those bilingual in Spanish and English are highly encouraged to apply!
