Job Description

Description / Position Overview

Inspector II

About this Job: In this position you will perform landscape and zoning inspections throughout the continuum of the building permit process to ensure compliance with the City of Colorado Springs Unified Development Code (UDC) also known as zoning and land use regulations. You also will perform some entry-level planning duties such as reviewing building permits. With the thriving economic conditions of the Pikes Peak region the City of Colorado Springs is experiencing significant construction and development activities.

Job Type:Full-time

Work Location: In the field at various sites for inspections.
Learn more about the department: an Inspector II you will:
  • Inspect construction projects ensuring that all projects are completed in compliance with all applicable local state and federal laws codes and regulations especially the City of Colorado Springs UDC
  • Interpret and enforce land-use accessibility and landscape regulations
  • Analyze detailed site landscape irrigation and grading plans to ensure field compliance of construction and development activities
  • Conduct on-site inspections to confirm compliance with the approved entitlements including development plans final landscape and irrigation plans prior to Certificate of Occupancy or financial assurance release
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns from various entities and the general public; investigate and resolve issues related to construction and development activities.
  • Oversee subdivision construction functions; review and inspect for final release of financial assurances and acceptance of improvements on private property.
  • Coordinate with applicants and effectively communicate design specifications to ensure compliance with established City requirements and approved plans
  • Conduct post-site inspections to determine if the landscape is living and if any code enforcement cases need to be opened
  • Conduct site inspection for hillside overlay properties to ensure compliance with limit of disturbance fencing landscape retention or removal onsite grading and preservation areas
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Methods and techniques of land use planning zoning and development
  • Pertinent federal state and local laws codes and regulations
  • Modern office technology and applications
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) and project management systems
  • Read and understand legal descriptions of property
  • Communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
