AUGUSTINE Position Description Position: Coordinator for Multicultural Youth & Young Adult Ministry Administrative Assistant Youth and Young Adult Ministry FLSA: Exempt ME Reports to: Director Youth and Young Adult Ministry Full-time Effective: date: 1/1/2024 7/25/2024 5/21/2025 Grade: 204 General Summary: The Coordinator for Multicultural Youth & Young Adult Ministry is a lay ecclesial minister who is responsible for assisting in the coordination of initiatives of the office focusing on multicultural youth and young adults. The coordinator provides direct ministry to youth and young adults through education presentations and faith formation to youth at gatherings activities mission trips regional/national/international events catechesis and sacramental preparation. Additionally the coordinator equips and supports parishes in their efforts to minister to multicultural youth promoting inclusion and cultural awareness within parish life. Serves as a subject matter expert and advisor with the Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministry to assist and support parish Directors and Coordinators of Youth Ministry in youth and multicultural ministry strategies. Direct and indirect services are offered to parish youth young adults clergy volunteers and other key stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Advocates for and provides formation of the special needs issues and gifts of the multicultural young population in the Diocese of St. Augustine. Provides a response with appropriate pastoral models to fulfill the needs and equips parishes to do the same. 2. Coordinates multicultural formation opportunities at the diocesan level for youth ministers clergy and young adult leaders. Actively participates in the formation of youth and young adults alongside youth ministers clergy and young adult leaders. 3. Collaborates with other diocesan offices working with multicultural youth and young adults (Multicultural Office Christian Formation Catholic Schools Family Life Vocations). 4. Develops and maintains a network of young adults youth ministers and pastoral advisors to assist in the coordination of diocesan services and programs including the current Hispanic youth & young adult ministry leadership team. 5. Promotes collaboration and serves as the diocesan point of contact between parish youth and young adult groups and movements. Facilitates regional and diocesan programs for and gatherings of multicultural young adults for continuing growth in faith fellowship vocational discernment and other areas of need and interest and equips parishes to do the same. 6. Advocates for a comprehensive vision of youth ministry based on the USCCB document Renewing The Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry; the US Bishops Pastoral Plan for Ministry of Young Adults Sons and Daughters of the Light; as well as Listen Teach Send. 7. Coordinates the outreach to and evangelization of all young people in the community. 8. Engages youth in the social mission of the church in accordance with Catholic social teaching. 9. Enables young people to celebrate and deepen their relationship with the triune God through individual and communal prayer and participation in the liturgical life of the church and equips parishes to do the same. 10. Fosters the involvement of young people in the life of the parish including serving on various parish committees and being involved in parish activities. 11. Builds and maintains good relationships with church personnel in the parish including employees volunteers in ministry etc. 12. Takes responsibility for self-development and continuing education in areas pertinent to the mission of the Multicultural Youth & Young Adult Ministry such as Life-long faith formation. 13. Encourages multicultural participation in all Youth & Young Adult Ministry initiatives to foster integration. 14. Networks with other multicultural youth & young adult ministry professionals at national regional and local gatherings; in addition be aware of the national trends and resources that are available to those working in this ministry. 15. Provides and manages multicultural content on official social media platforms. 16. Develops a budget for Multicultural Youth & Young Adult ministry for advisory purposes within the department. 17. Responds to specific and routine work assignments as well as special projects from the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry in service to the Office of Youth and Young Adults necessitating attention to detail priority and deadlines. Provides regular status updates on assignments to the Director. 18. Provides direct administrative support to the Director and assists with project and event planning coordination and development for the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. 19. Provides calendar management for programs and events of the office; schedules and confirms dates with venues. 20. Assists with the execution of events including preparation of packet materials on-site registration day-of logistics and other tasks as needed. Travel is necessary may need to work evenings weekends and travel on overnight stays. Provides for or assists with the setup of meetings and luncheons. 21. With an acute sense of urgency is responsible for being very knowledgeable on all policies related to the diocesan Safe Environment Program and be able to advise and answer questions from youth ministry leaders and volunteers on Safe Environment policies background check compliance PGC requirements for those working with youth. 22. Maintains and processes online registrations for programs and services offered by the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry; edits online forms monitors social media pages; monitors online payments diocesan accounts. 23. Demonstrates characteristics and qualities desired of a Roman Catholic lay leader including excellent character integrity and support of the teachings and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of St. Augustine. Demonstrate fidelity and support of Church leadership. 24. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities 1. Practicing Catholic in good standing and registered member of a Catholic parish faith community. Must have the ability to respect promote accommodate and not be in conflict with the mission moral and social teachings doctrines and laws of the Roman Catholic Church. 2. Must be a graduate of a recognized Catholic lay ecclesial ministry program such as the DOSA Ministry Formation Program (MFP); have completed an approved certificate program in Youth Ministry from an accredited affiliated program. Example: and possess an Intercultural Competency Certification. 3. At least four (4) years experience in youth ministry.
4. Knowledge of and the ability to convey effectively the official teaching of the Church in the areas of Scripture doctrine morality and spirituality with a demonstrated fidelity to these teachings. 5. Ability to proficiently communicate in English. Bi-lingual Spanish (conversing writing and reading) is strongly preferred. 6. Knowledge of church documents relating to youth ministry particularly the 1997 USCCB document Renewing The Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry; the US Bishops Pastoral Plan for Ministry of Young Adults Sons and Daughters of the Light; and Listen Teach Send. 7. Experience in planning and facilitating youth activities retreats and events. 8. Self-starter with drive and initiative to create dynamic opportunities in and outside the church to evangelize youth and young adults. 9. Ability to respect and work with diverse cultures that makes up the Church and society and strives to celebrate commonalities and differences among various groups. 10. Knowledge and skills in the use of technology as well as continuously looking for ways to use technology to make the office and individual work responsibilities more effective and efficient. 11. Must consistently demonstrate a positive friendly respectful and caring attitude with colleagues the public and all one serves in word and deed; projecting a welcoming atmosphere to all who visit the offices. 12. Must be a goal oriented and self-motivated individual who can demonstrate accountability initiative creativity and focus in a rapidly changing and intellectually stimulating environment. 13. Must be able to organize and prioritize work be proactive resolve complex problems follow through and simultaneously manage multiple priorities. 14. Requires a high level of computer expertise in Microsoft Office products including Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook and Access. A minimum of 40 wpm required. 15. Must be proficient in English grammar with excellent research interpretive writing proofreading and editing skills. 16. Must have the ability and experience to work in a respectful team environment with other diocesan personnel and the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with clergy diocesan employees and outside contacts. 17. Ability to travel within the Diocese of St. Augustine and its parishes schools and other diocesan entities. Ability and availability to travel on overnight trips work weekends and evenings on occasion. 18. Ability to pursue this mission with energy drive and a need to produce results especially in the face of resistance or setbacks. Must be flexible self-confident assertive and persuasive. 19. Ability to produce concise reports and recommendations make presentations to varied groups and articulate and inspire commitment to a shared vision. 20. Must be able to maintain confidential information exercise good judgment and work independently as well as in a team environment. 21. Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and maintain this clearance throughout employment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients vendors employees and the public. Ability to proficiently communicate in English. Bi-lingual Spanish (conversing writing and reading) is strongly preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
