About the Position:
The The City of San Bernardino is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IT Analyst I (Flex) to join our Police Department. IT Analyst I (Flex) is the entry and probationary level in the IT Analyst series. Incumbents perform the more routine duties in development modification installation and/or maintenance of City systems and applications. This class is distinguished from Information Technology Analyst II in that incumbents in the latter class perform higher level systems design and development work for moderately complex systems requiring a greater knowledge of City operational requirements systems and operating platforms.

Note: This recruitment will be used to fill a vacancy within the Information Technology Department. The selected candidate will be assigned to support Public Safety operations serving the Police Department and must successfully pass a Police background investigation. Depending on the assignment the incumbent may be placed on an on-call schedule and required to report to the department immediately when needed.

  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and thoroughness in analyzing and documenting system requirements and solutions.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to evaluate complex systems and processes identify problems and devise effective solutions.

A Day in the Life Consists of:
As an IT Analyst I (Flex) with the City of San Bernardino your day will focus on supporting City departments by maintaining and improving software applications systems and user experiences. Youll work closely with end users fellow IT staff and vendors to troubleshoot issues implement updates and contribute to technical projects that support essential City services. Your day may include:

  • Responding to help desk tickets and resolving routine software hardware or application issues.

  • Supporting City departments by troubleshooting testing and modifying existing systems and applications.

  • Assisting with the development documentation and implementation of new applications or upgrades.

  • Writing and testing basic code or queries to improve system functionality and reporting.

  • Participating in meetings with users to gather system requirements and provide training or demonstrations.

  • Coordinating with vendors and technical staff to ensure software and systems are functioning as expected.

  • Maintaining data integrity and supporting the security of City applications and infrastructure.

  • Creating and updating documentation such as user guides technical procedures and system workflows.

  • Staying up to date on new technologies and participating in training opportunities to enhance your skills.

  • Contributing to team projects process improvements and innovation efforts across the Citys IT operations.


What You Need to Qualify

Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in computer science management information systems or a closely related field;

AND

At least two (2) years of responsible experience in the development installation and maintenance of computer applications; or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

Licenses Certifications and Equipment:
A valid California drivers license is required.

Knowledge of

  • Designing and developing effective applications and other technology solutions.
  • Working collaboratively and cooperatively with team members and users to ensure project accountability.
  • Troubleshooting diagnosing and resolving systems and applications problems using sound logical practices and procedures.
  • Communicating clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
  • Preparing clear concise and accurate process procedure and systems documentation.
  • Setting priorities and organizing work to complete project responsibilities.
  • Reading interpreting explaining and applying technical information on business processes software and hardware for technical and non-technical users.
  • Exercising sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
  • Keeping technical skills current to meet continuing applications development and technology assignments.
  • Using tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive complex and/or confidential issues and situations.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Providing customer service.
