Job Description
Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship at North Bromsgrove High School
North Bromsgrove High School is a coeducational upper school and sixth form located in the centre of Bromsgrove Worcestershire England.
North Bromsgrove High School is looking for a Teaching Assistant apprentice to support the classroom teacher with their responsibility for the development and education of childrenincluding those with special physical emotional and educational needs by utilising detailed knowledgeand skills.
Apprenticeship Overview:
- Salary:7.55 an hourAutomatic pay increase after one year on programme for 19 year olds
- Working Week:Monday to Friday 8:45 am to 3:15 pm with a 30-minute break
- Hours: 30hours per week
- Duration:18 months

Duties:
- Under the direction and control of the SENCO or classroom teacher.
- Supervise the activities of individuals or groups of children to ensure their safety and facilitate their physical and emotional development.
- Undertake those activities necessary to meet the physical and emotional needs of individuals and groups of children including pupils with educational physical or emotional special needs.
- To monitor individual pupils problems progress achievements and condition and report these to the SENCO/classroom teacher as appropriate.
- Actively engage in the pre-determined educational activities and work programmes at a basic level and to assist in personal and individual development of individuals or groups of pupils.
Under the direction of the SENCO/class teacher:
- To assist the teacher with learning activities generally in the classroom.
- To carry out appropriate activities as planned within the classroom or with groups of pupils including administration of baseline tests.
- To prepare and photocopy resources for lessons and activities.
- Assistance with the physical manipulation of objects and equipment general supervision counselling and discipline of students within the procedures of the school.
- To assist the teaching in liaising with parents and professionals such as speech therapists.
- Helping the teacher with tasks.
- Hearing children read.
- Answering questions from pupils.
- Providing support for the Literacy and Numeracy strategies.
- Giving spelling exercises if appropriate to the needs of the pupils.
- Assisting the pupil to access the normal routines of the classroom.
- Modification of the work for the child under the direction of the class teacher and supporting the child in carrying out this work.
- Assisting in the implementation of programmes designed by other professional such as educational psychologists and speech and language therapist.
- To contribute to meetings to discuss the specific childs progress.
- Adhering to and maintaining school routine and codes of conduct.
- Supporting the ethos of the school.
- To assist with the support to group activities within and away from the classroom i.e. educationalvisits.
- To ensure that pupils are able to safely use equipment and materials provided and be aware of the range of resource available.
- Promote pupil independence in learning and reinforcing the students self-esteem through praise and encouragement.
- Assisting with the promotion of independence activities and mobility skills.
- To maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end
The successful candidate will obtain a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard qualification.
Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentices needs the frequency of these sessions may vary.
