Clerk VI - Main Lab - Cecil - 8 Hrs./Week
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To receive sort verify and order tests on laboratory specimens.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives and sorts laboratory specimens and request slips.
Verifies match of request slip and specimen. Utilizes patient demographics medical record number financial number provider and encounter for accurate identification.
Utilizes proper alternate guarantor screens for pediatric and geriatric patients.
Orders correct blood tests for future rounds on the correct patient for the correct time.
Follows all established LIS downtime procedures.
Picks up and delivers lab specimens as needed.
Maintains equipment and supplies.
Answers telephone calls from providers nurses and laboratory personnel. When required gives test results in an efficient knowledgeable and courteous manner.
Prints identification label and affixes to proper specimen container.
Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to neonatal pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric patients including knowledge of growth and development the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs and provide the care needed.
Performs assigned work safely adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor in a timely manner any unsafe activities conditions hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself other employees patients and visitors.
Processes send-out specimens for the main campus or the reference laboratory accurately.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate
Two years applicable clinical experience or equivalent college courses in the health care field is preferred.
