James City Countys Fleet and Equipment Maintenance Division is hiring Automotive Technicians.
Automotive Technician I

Automotive Technician II/III
candidates offered a full-time position are eligible for a $4000 Sign-on bonus! *ask for more details*

Our Automotive Technicians perform responsible/experienced skilled craft work inspecting maintaining and repairing a variety of gasoline and diesel vehicles specialized equipment heavy equipment ambulances and fire apparatus.
Responsibilities:
- Performs diagnosis maintenance and repairs on gasoline and diesel vehicles and heavy equipment including ambulances fire apparatus and various other equipment.
- Performs air-conditioning electrical suspension and other major component repair on a variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Performs acetylene and electric welding and fabricating.
- Completes work orders and notifies customers; maintains required documentation and logbooks.
- (Automotive Technician II and III) Instruct train and assist other Technicians.
- This job is considered essential personnel and will be required to work during and following natural disasters and emergency situations.
Requirements:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma; supplemented by courses in auto mechanics engine repair or related field; considerable experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive and related equipment.
- Must be eligible to obtain Virginia Class A Commercial Drivers permit within 30 days of hire and the license with combination endorsements: airbrakes and tanker within 6 months of hire and have an acceptable driving record based on James City Countys criteria
- Must possess or obtain within 6 months of hire a valid Virginia State Inspectors License.
- Must possess or obtain within 6 months of hire a valid air-conditioning recovery certification.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for service and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees and the public
- Provide own hand tools with an annual allowance.
There are three levels of Automotive Technician distinguished by the level of work performed and the qualifications of the employee.
Automotive Technician I: $50732 - $79023/ year DOQ
Automotive Technician II: $58095-$90804/year DOQ
Automotive Technician III: $62200-$97371/year DOQ
