The Department of Customer Services Division of Motor Vehicles Driver License Branch Motor Vehicle Control Section is hiring forMotor Vehicle Control Inspector I. There is one (1) vacancy located at the Kapahulu Vehicle Reconstruction Inspection Station.

As a Motor Vehicle Control Inspector I your duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Performing inspectional and investigative tasks relative to the enforcement of laws rules and regulations;
  • Investigating complaints pertaining to violations of the Periodic Motor Vehicle Inspection program;
  • Responsibility for the licensing and conducting unannounced inspections of safety inspection stations and adjustors;
  • Investigations of abandoned and derelict vehicles;
  • Investigations of taxi complaints and regulate the taxi industry;
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities of the position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At the time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two (2) years of experience in inspectional investigative instructional or repair work which shall have included ascertaining the overall mechanical operating and safety condition of motor vehicles.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license (automobile/Type 3) prior to appointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a special police commission prior to completion of probation. During the probationary period selectees shall be fingerprinted photographed and subject to a background investigation by the Honolulu Police Department.
