Associate Principal Scientist General Medicine Therapeutic Areas Biomarker Lead
Job Description
Translational Biomarkers (TB) is responsible for the development and validation of clinical biomarkers and their end-to-end strategic utilization across all therapeutic areas and all phases of clinical development at our Companys Research laboratories. TB therapeutic area biomarker leads actively collaborate with colleagues in discovery and clinical development to ensure fit-for-purpose biomarker strategies are in place to address key clinical questions and enable facile decision-making to support our pipeline.
The Biomarker Leads group within the TB organization is seeking a highly motivated candidate to join our team. The individual will play a critical role in the design delivery and execution of biomarker plans for our Companys early and late phase clinical trials in the General Medicine therapeutic areas including but not limited to cardiometabolic disorders.
The ideal candidate for this Associate Principal Scientist position should have strong expertise in translational science and laboratory medicine with demonstrated experience applying biomarkers to assess drug activity and patient response to inform therapeutic decision making. In addition the individual should have a strong desire to operate in a highly collaborative and matrixed environment to address unmet patient needs in complex multi-organ diseases.
The individual will have the following responsibilities:
Design and implement biomarker strategies for early and late-stage clinical programs.
Lead clinical biomarker sub-teams as part of program development teams and represent the functional area during governance interactions.
Liaise with subject matter experts to identify and effectively implement target engagement pharmacodynamic proof-of-mechanism and precision medicine biomarkers for clinical phase programs.
Facilitate the adoption of innovative technologies and methodologies for biomarker identification and analysis grounded in disease pathophysiology and aligned with therapeutic mechanisms of action.
Participate in the formulation of testable hypotheses for biomarker analyses and facilitate interpretation of results to ensure meaningful and accurate conclusions are drawn.
Contribute to biomarker-related presentations publications and engagements both internally and externally.
Position Qualifications:
Education Minimum Requirement:
BS MS or Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline (Biochemistry Immunology Molecular Pathology Cell Biology or related field).
Required Experience and Skills:
Ph.D. and 5 years OR MS and 8 years OR BS and 12 years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry specifically in translational or biomarker sciences.
Excellent interpersonal project leadership verbal and written communication skills.
Strong scientific rigor analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex data.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience supporting translational research in cardiometabolic disorders including the development and integration of vascular inflammatory metabolic and/or fibrosis biomarkers to inform patient stratification pharmacodynamic assessment or mechanistic understanding of disease biology.
Contributions to the scientific community through publications presentations or scientific consortia.
Proficiency in applying omics technologies and/or computational approaches (e.g. AI/ML bioinformatics digital pathology analytics) to extract integrate and interpret biomarker data is advantageous.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model
Effective September 5 2023 employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week Monday - Thursday although the specific days may vary by site or organization with Friday designated as a remote-working day unless business critical tasks require an on-site Hybrid work model does not apply to and daily in-person attendance is required for field-based positions; facility-based manufacturing-based or research-based positions where the work to be performed is located at a Company site; positions covered by a collective-bargaining agreement (unless the agreement provides for hybrid work); or any other position for which the Company has determined the job requirements cannot be reasonably met working remotely. The Company is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this job in certain states and cities within the United States. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors which may include but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidates relevant skills experience and education.
Expected US salary range:
$126500.00 - $199100.00Available benefits include bonus eligibility long term incentive if applicable health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family) retirement benefits paid holidays vacation and sick days. A summary of benefits is listed here.
