Primary Purpose
Reporting to the Dean of Students the Assistant Dean of Students provides highly collaborative leadership and coordination for non-clinical intervention resources and support to all students on a broad range of issues affecting their retention and persistence at the University. This position leads Pacifics Care Team overseeing the intake tracking and coordination of all reports and referrals and maintains a caseload of students who have been identified as at risk of attrition due to persistent and significant academic and/or personal factors and could benefit from intervention and proactive case management to improve graduation outcomes. The Assistant Dean will work closely with campus partners on behalf of students who demonstrate concerning behaviors or who need assistance navigating the college environment and serves as a facilitator in supporting and resolving student crises including those related to personal welfare and financial matters.
Essential Functions
Primary role in the management of the Office of Dean of Students response to students needs during crises or other life events that are affecting student persistence and retention Implements proactive case management strategies to intervene and provide ongoing support for an assigned caseload of students including those with significant or compounding academic financial or personal challenges as well as students for which previous interventions by the academic unit have been unsuccessful. Provides leadership and guidance to Care Manager staff in the delivery of care and support services to students; manages a comprehensive approach to addressing distressed students that implements case management developmental theory and best practices in student care. Leads weekly Care Team meetings gathering key campus stakeholders tracking student cases and critical incidents and serving a primary role in management and follow up of these incidents. Acts as a resource and liaison to members of the University community on matters pertaining to student wellbeing and students in distress; collaborates with the Dean of Students to provide regular education training and information on these topics to the community. Exercise independent judgement on when to intervene manage or escalate student and campus safety matters; notify leadership of crises threats and other concerns as they relate to student safety and well-being; complete required reporting and referrals to the Behavioral Intervention Team Care Team Student Conduct office Title IX and the Bias Response Team. Assist in the review tracking and management of requests to the Student Emergency Fund; work alongside Dean of Students staff to address urgent financial concerns including for basic needs. Serves in the Dean on Call rotation to address emergent student issues outside of business hours. Ability to prioritize student issues and needs and keep timely documentation and case notes of progress in Maxient Ellucian Advise and other university platforms. Manages an operating budget and assists supervisors with budget projections and funding proposals. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and competence in working with diverse students staff families and community members. Understand and follow FERPA HIPAA and other relevant laws and regulations and uphold the highest standards of confidentiality. Performs other duties as assigned. This position serves as a Campus Security Authority ( CSA ) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes reported to them. Minimum Qualifications
Masters Degree Five (5) years of experience in Student Life counseling case management or crisis intervention. Knowledge of Relevant Laws and Policies including but not limited to FERPA Title IX Clery Act VAWA ADA /504 etc. Interpersonal conflict resolution and cross-cultural communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent public speaking and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of and willingness to learn and work with technology related to student information systems. Knowledge of student programming student services and activities; and community service programs. Positive attitude proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
Work Schedule
Work performed during standard business hours. Nights and weekends may be necessary to attend events or programs. Occasional travel to other campuses may be required.
