Last year LifeMoves returned over 2000 people to housing and stability for 86% of families and67% of individuals who engaged in their programs. With 26 interim housing communities and support services fromDaly City to San Jose LifeMoves provides its neighbors experiencing homelessness a temporary place to callhome while providing intensive customized case management through both site-based programs and communityoutreach that teaches and reinforces skills that clients need to return to and sustain stable housing. POSITION PURPOSE
The Benefits Specialist position is designed to provide support to clients in securing benefits. The BenefitsSpecialist (BS) provides benefit-related resources and support to Case Managers and works 1:1 with clients todetermine eligibility for various benefits and programs. The BS achieves this by providing clients with education onthese topics and training case managers. Additionally the Benefits Specialists will proactively monitor newprograms and/or changes to existing benefits to consistently offer the most relevant information to LifeMovesclients.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities:
- Develop implement and revise individual benefits plans and consistently monitor progress toward client goalswhich include but are not limited to Social Security Income Social Security Disability Unemployment GeneralAssistance CalFresh and Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants.
- Provide ongoing supportive functions in accordance with the employment/benefits plan
- Act as liaison for LifeMoves and our community partners to provide up-to-date resources and referrals
- Communicate appropriately and as needed with clients case managers and community partners.
- In collaboration with the Manager develop relationships with external partners to provide linkage betweenresources and agencies.
- Maintain client and program records in accordance with applicable standards and policies
- Maintain a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality dual-relationships and professional stature
- Participate in continuing education activities remaining knowledgeable in the area(s) of expertise
- Participate in the application and appeal process for clients benefits.
- Attend weekly case consultation meetings and monthly trainings; meet regularly with supervisor to exchangepertinent information and receive supervision
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Skills and Experience
- Familiarity with county/state benefits such as CAL-FRESH General Assistance SSI/SSDI unemployment etc.
- Ability to correspond with county benefits providers to advocate on behalf of clients.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with program teams.
- Ability to travel to various programs.
- Knowledge in MS suite and Salesforce/Voyager
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in social work or related field preferred
- Thoughtful and creative thinker with an enthusiastic approach to work
- Computer savvy and very strong writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse client population
- Drive to seek solutions independently and contribute to team goals
- Engaging public speaker
- Bilingual Spanish-speaking preferred
- Automobile and valid drivers license required
