The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board invites applications from external candidates for the position of Summer Learning Program Tutor.

Effective: July 2 2025 (paid training) followed by July 7 2025 July 25 2025

Times: 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Location: The PVNC Catholic Education Centre (training) followed by St. Dominic C.E.S. Lindsay

Rate of Pay: $20.00 per hour X 6 hours per day

Responsibilities:

As a Classroom Tutor you will work directly with students in a classroom setting providing individualized and small-group support. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Academic Support:
  • Assisting students with understanding and completing homework assignments across various subjects (e.g. math reading writing science).
  • Reinforcing concepts taught by the classroom teacher through one-on-one or small group instruction.
  • Helping students develop effective study habits and organizational skills.
  • Adapting tutoring methods to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Classroom Assistance:
  • Collaborating with the classroom teacher to identify areas where students require additional support.
  • Assisting the teacher with classroom management as needed fostering a positive and productive learning atmosphere.
  • Preparing and organizing learning materials as directed by the teacher.
  • Observing student progress and communicating observations to the classroom teacher.
  • Student Engagement & Motivation:
  • Encouraging student participation and building confidence in their academic abilities.
  • Creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
  • Acting as a positive role model and mentor for young learners.
  • Communication & Professionalism:
  • Maintaining regular and effective communication with the classroom teacher regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Adhering to all school/organization policies and procedures including those related to student safety and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrating professionalism and reliability in all interactions.

Requirements :

  • Communication Skills: required to communicate effectively with teachers and students in the Summer Learning Program.
  • Personal and Team skills: required to work both independently and as part of a team through a variety of activities;
  • Students must be residents of Ontario;
  • Students must be eligible to work in Canada;
  • In certain circumstances Senior Secondary (Grade 12) student may be considered.
