Job Title: High School Marketing Teacher at the Portage School of Leaders

General Description:
The Portage School of Leaders seeks a dynamic Marketing Teacher to launch and lead our new Career and Technical Education Pathway in Marketing while also playing a key role in advancing the schools communications and storytelling efforts. This unique position blends engaging classroom instruction with real-world marketing experiences empowering students to pursue careers in marketing business and entrepreneurship. In addition to teaching this individual will collaborate with the Chief Marketing Officer to design and lead the Portage Schools marketing and outreach effortshelping to tell the story of a high school model that prioritizes student agency real-world learning and relationship-rich education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Marketing Business Education or a related field.
- Valid Indiana teaching license in Business/Marketing Education or eligibility for a Workplace Specialist I license (requires 4000 hours of relevant industry experience within the past ten years and completion of a 2-year or higher degree).
- Industry experience in marketing sales entrepreneurship or communications preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills creativity and a passion for student success.
- Familiarity with Indianas Next Level Programs of Study (NLPS) and standards-based education.
Primary Responsibilities:
Teaching & Student Development
- Design and deliver engaging instruction aligned to NLPS standards in marketing entrepreneurship and business.
- Integrate real-world experiences industry-aligned projects and dual-credit opportunities.
- Use performance-based and standards-based assessment practices to measure student learning and support student mastery.
- Foster a classroom culture of professionalism creativity collaboration and student agency.
- Serve as a Wayfinder (Advisor) for a group of students supporting academic personal and postsecondary growth.
- Facilitate extracurricular and leadership opportunities such as DECA or other career development organizations.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with faculty on interdisciplinary project-based learning experiences.
- Participate actively in professional learning and innovation design teams.
- Maintain clear communication with families and students to support academic and career success.
- Engage with the advisory committee and industry partners to keep curriculum relevant and responsive to workforce needs.
Storytelling & School Marketing
- Support internal and external marketing and communications efforts for the Portage School of Leaders in collaboration with the Chief Marketing Officer.
- Create high-quality content (social media posts newsletters videos photo essays blog posts etc.) that tell the story of the Portage School and highlight student voice community partnerships and our distinctive learning model.
- Oversee student involvement in school-based marketing and media projects building real-world skills while amplifying school impact.
- Coordinate marketing materials and content to support recruitment admissions and community partnerships.
- Athletic/Co-Curricular Activities Support (for 2025-2026)
- Collect check and monitor all required athletic paperwork (physicals athletic code of conduct other IHSAA or CANoPS required forms etc)
- Attend run and monitor all HOME meets/games as well as be present occasionally to AWAY events (or coordinate presence and coverage)
- Check in with coaches and athletes to ensure safe practice environments and an appropriate level of expectation is being followed
- Communicate with the Network Athletic Director about issues schedules etc. as needed
- Be able to work through and create solutions to problems as they arise within a season - be the point of contact in the building for athletics
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Competency in the administration and interpretation of academic ability testing.
- Ability to use technology for documentation and preparation of professional materials.
- Ability to teach and assist students in the use of computer applications.
- Ability to communicate assessment results in written and oral forms to parents and professionals.
- Ability to develop implement and evaluate behavior plans for use in general and special education settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently manage time effectively and contribute meaningfully to collaborative team environments.
- Commitment to lifelong learning and growth particularly in adapting to new technologies and instructional tools.
- Skilled in communication and marketing tools (e.g. Canva Adobe social media platforms).
- Capacity to lead creative media or promotional projects with students and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- A commitment to equity relationships and student-centered learning.
- Must demonstrate foundational professionalism including consistent attendance punctuality adherence to school policies and procedures and strong employability skills. These are considered essential non-negotiable expectations of the role.
School Activities:
The Marketing Teacher is required to attend and/or participate in such other activities as directed by the Administrator such as faculty meetings (before or after school hours) open houses commencement exercises chaperoning student activities providing guidance for students participating in faculty committees study and help resolve school problems.
