Job Description

Position Title: Data Specialist


Company Description: NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education support services and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental illnesses.


Primary Responsibilities/Function:

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and technically skilled Data Specialist who will be responsible for collecting inputting and maintaining various data management systems utilized by the Ryan White Programs. This individual will meet reporting deadlines from SD County and City of SD. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with data systems including ARIES (now HCC) and HMIS Clarity and possess advanced Excel and dashboard development skills.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize data systems and processes for efficient data collection storage and retrieval.
  • Ensure data accuracy completeness and consistency.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather organize and report program data as required.
  • Work closely with program staff to understand data needs and provide data-related guidance and support.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data reporting on all data entry systems required by various funding streams.
  • Develop and generate summary reports spreadsheets and query data as needed.
  • Assist the Program Manager and/or Program Director in monthly quarterly and annual reports.
  • Strong understanding of data analysis and visualization techniques.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining dashboards.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and reporting agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Accountability: Reports to Resolution Services Director.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Reliable and consistent transportation.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency with computer software (Microsoft Office: Outlook Word Excel (Intermediate Level) and power BI preferred.
  • Experience with ARIES database preferred and familiarity with HCC and/or HMIS.
  • Non-profit experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance.
