Wage range: $38/hour (wage adjusted for experience education and specialty certifications).

Your Impact

Opportunity to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy to patients at all levels of acuity and for a wide variety of disease states in a highly rated 300-bed acute care facility in Chico CA. The inpatient dietitian conducts nutrition assessments provides therapeutic diet education designs and evaluates tube feeding and TPN regimens and participates in departmental quality assurance data collection and practice guidelines development. May be involved in mentoring dietetic interns. May perform other tasks assigned by the Clinical Nutrition Manager.

Directly: Clinical Nutrition Manager

Responsibilities

  • Conducts a nutrition assessment for patients at nutritional risk within required time frames. Obtains timely and appropriate data and analyzes/interprets data based on evidence-based standards.
  • Provides appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patients medical record including nutrition assessment diagnosis plan/goals implementation and progress towards goals.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary care conferences and discharge planning activities as appropriate. Works closely with other disciplines including OT PT Speech and Social Services to ensure continuity of care.
  • Performs nutrition diagnosis after identifying the problem and clarifying the cause of the problem with the patients medical team.
  • Develops and implements or makes recommendations for an individualized plan for nutrition intervention including enteral and parenteral nutrition.
  • Reviews/approves therapeutic diets to ensure compliance with all state and federal guidelines.
  • Assesses and evaluates techniques that consider the varied needs of age-specific populations as well as cultural religious and ethnic concerns.
  • Works collaboratively with and provides area supervision of dining service staff to assure accuracy of diet prescriptions and high level of customer satisfaction/scores.
  • Provides appropriate follow-up in accordance with the patients treatment goals referring patients for outpatient counseling community resources or home services as appropriate.
  • Conducts in-services and education presentations to hospital/department staff.
  • Maintains accurate record keeping of daily clinical activities as required including information for scheduling and billing of ambulatory care services.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new dietitians and DTRs. Functions as a preceptor to dietetic students and interns. Plans learning experiences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Nutrition Expertise

  • Interprets evaluates and utilizes current evidence-based nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy.
  • Ensures compliance with current CMS and state regulations and the nutrition care process.
  • Provides support and expertise as needed.

Patient Relations

  • Interfaces regularly and professionally with Culinary Administrator DON Executive Directors patients residents and families.
  • Participates in client meetings training and activities as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required.
  • RD eligible candidates will be considered

Preferred

  • Bachelors degree from four-year college or university in Nutrition; minimum one (1) year work experience as a dietitian preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or regulations. Ability to complete assessments and write reports; read draft and reply to email; and present information and respond to questions from groups of clients customers residents and the public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure use whole numbers and common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral or verbal form.
