- Completion of a two-year Technical Diploma in Landscape Technology Urban Forestry Horticulture or a related field
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the landscape industry or parks landscape construction
Assets:
- Previous experience with landscape inspections
- Construction Management Certificate
Skills required for success:
- Working knowledge of landscape design landscape construction construction survey construction grading and slopes
- Knowledge of landscape and construction techniques and terminology
- Knowledge of Edmonton Landscape Design and Construction Standards Volume 5 Landscaping and Landscaping Inspector Guideline Manual
- Excellent communication skills verbally and in business / technical writing
- Technical plant knowledge with the ability to identify weeds pests and diseases
- Technical knowledge of City of Edmonton Landscape Design and Construction Standards

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position

Work Environment:

As a Landscape Technician II in Parks and Roads Services you will be responsible for working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders as well as members of the development industry to certify and accept landscaping infrastructure for the City of Edmonton. These positions are responsible for ensuring that landscaping projects are completed and built to the current City of Edmonton design and construction standards and are; safe functional aesthetically pleasing and sustainable.
What will you do
- Mitigate long term maintenance liabilities
- Ensure capital stakeholder and developer contributed landscaping infrastructure meet all the appropriate requirements prior to acceptance into City inventory
- Monitor approve or reject landscaping infrastructure for internal and external stakeholders or developer contributed assets within a designated geographical area
- Review constructed landscaping from a safety vegetation health (vigor) and ease of maintenance perspective
- Inspect overland drainage concerns on Parkland and Open Spaces to determine if drainage could create short or long-term impacts that would require immediate or future mitigation
- Delegate the responsibility for action to the appropriate functional business area
- Coordinate the remediation process with contractors and in house COE SMEs
- Identify track and monitor projects that have not achieved acceptable overland grading until completion
- Inspection of Catch Basins/Manholes on City of Edmonton owned Parkland and Open Space inventory to proactively identify potential issues or concerns.
- Data entry of asset conditions and site findings into the inspection application via mobile phone or tablet
- Complete inspection reports or use App to document deficient items
- Construction and establishment period audit inspections and reports
- Perform site visits related to internal or external inquiries notifications complaints etc.
- Coordinate to provide Construction Completion Certificates (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) inspections as per PARS and servicing agreement requirements
- Design drawing review provide comments on landscape design circulations from internal and external sources
- Other duties will be performed as required
