Do you enjoy analytical work Do you have a strong understanding of appraisal practices This position is an essential part of the Assessors Office leadership team.
As the Appraiser Supervisor your organization skills will help ensure the timely process of conducting fair and equitable property values. We count on you to set work priorities contribute to developing internal policies procedures and practices and be accountable for quality work within the appraisal unit being supervised and provide guidance on complex and high-profile questions and appraisal work. Appraisal Supervisors may be assigned to different divisions within the Assessors Office (i.e. Valuation Field).

We Require
Five years of progressively responsible property appraisal experience
One year of supervisory or lead experience
Bachelors degree
A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona drivers license by the time of hire
Completion of Arizona Department of Revenue DOR Level II coursework
Certification or designation from a professional appraisal organization OR evidence of at least 300 hours of completed coursework towards a certificate or designation may be accepted in lieu of DOR Level II certification; in such instances DOR Level I certification must be completed within 15 months of hire and DOR Level II certification must be attained within one year thereafter

Post-graduate courses in Statistics Accounting or Economics
Advanced appraisal training and continuing education
Appraisal experience in an Ad Valorem environment
Experience in a specialized appraisal discipline or multiple commercial property types
Experience with income on a wide variety of moderate to complex properties
Possession of DOR Level I and DOR Level II certifications at time of hire
Job Contributions
Represents the Assessors Office with taxpayers tax consultants and jurisdictions and other governmental departments and agencies as appropriate
Assures the department meets all statutory requirements pertaining to timely and accurate appraisals internal and external audits and other business operations; communicates statutory and internal deadlines for assigned team
Contributes to the effectiveness and consistent practices of the Appraisal Unit by working with Appraisal Managers and Supervisors to regularly review practices and work processes for improvement and makes recommendations for new improvements
Provides guidance and acts as a resource to appraisers on more complex and high-profile properties
Handles difficult property valuation matters; deals directly with property owners and jurisdictions in elevated matters to resolve issues
Hires and develops appraisers to become competent in the appraisal ensures a developed and motivated staff and creates a positive work environment; actively monitors the work climate and creates a collaborative team leads the recognition efforts to establish a one-team culture
Assigns appraisers and support staff to specific objectives and tasks communicates deadlines tracks and measures progress on assignments and adjusts as needed to deal with emergent needs or changing priorities
Assures quality of appraisal results by establishing and monitoring work review processes; producing and reviewing reports related to the work of the unit (e.g. those provided by or requested of Technology monthly unit reports for the Manager)
Ensures high-level customer service by setting and communicating standards informs leadership of critical issues and keeps staff informed of changes
Working Conditions
Primarily office environment with some field visits
