Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a dynamic instructional leader to serve as the Supervisor of Academic Programs at MLMS. Under the supervision of the Director of Teaching and Learning the Supervisor of Academic Programs at MLMS oversees all aspects of teaching and learning and academic programs at MLMS which has a grade range from 6-8. The successful candidate will demonstrate principled leadership and decision-making as outlined in the Maryland Instructional Leadership Framework while assuming a leadership role that advances the district towards its stated vision and mission. The Supervisor of Academic Programs at MLMS will be responsible for supervising and overseeing all instructional content areas as well as working closely with the Special Education (SPED) and English Language Learner (ELL) Departments.
DUTIES:
- Observes and evaluates assigned instructional personnel and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Works collaboratively with all content supervisors SPED and IT to ensure a systemic program of study.
- Provides and/or supervises professional development of personnel in assigned areas.
- Assist principals and assistant principals as well as teachers in design implementation and evaluation of school improvement plans.
- Analyzes current trends and practices in curriculum and instruction and shares information and materials with school staff and other assigned professionals.
- Provides leadership in development of assessments grading standards and reporting of grades to parents.
- Addresses parent and/or guardian concerns related to content or grading issues by conferring with the school administration and providing appropriate feedback aligned with DCPS policy.
- Attend local regional and state meetings.
- Monitors the development of student and teacher schedules.
- Conducts walk-throughs in the classrooms records findings and submits reports as appropriate.
- Provides leadership direction and management for the school systems School Improvement Planning.
- Works cooperatively with all DCPS departments to coordinate develop implement and evaluate Blueprint for Marylands Future funded programs including leadership and professional learning personalized and e-learning equity and cultural proficiency and instructional technology programs.
- Works cooperatively with Budget Finance and Purchasing to develop oversee and manage the Blueprint for Marylands Future funding.
- Works collaboratively with Human Resources and related departments to plan coordinate monitor and track career ladders diversity recruitment certification requirements and teacher evaluation as it relates to Blueprint for Marylands Future initiatives.
- Demonstrate professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Dorchester County Public Schools.
- Attends Board of Education meetings and prepares reports and exhibits for the Board as
requested by the Superintendent.
- Attends conferences workshops training sessions and local regional and state meetings pertaining to areas of assignment.
- Serves on boards and committees as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possesses prior to appointment the Maryland State Department of Education Certification for Administrator I Supervisor and Assistant Principal.
- Five (5) years of effective teaching experience required middle school experience preferred.
- Three (3) years of successful experience as a school-based administrator or supervisor preferred.
- Ability to develop effective work teams.
- Experience in systemic organizational thinking organizational leadership and change management.
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary groups or teams.
- Experience working with community-based (non-education) organizations.
- Experience working with and managing Federal grants and budget.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations and current trends and research in education.
- Knowledge of Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards.
- Strong project management skills to include defining projects and adhering to established timelines.
- Knowledge of relevant local state and national current events as it relates to the Blueprint for Marylands Future.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and provide excellent oral and written communication to diverse populations including students teachers administrators staff parents and the public.
