Under general direction the 1218 Payroll Supervisor is responsible for planning and administering the activities of a large varied and complex payroll division; performing highly difficult and responsible payroll certification and office supervisory work.
The essential duties include but are not limited to the following:
Qualifications :
Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Must be a Current Category 16 17 or 18 Exempt Employee in Class 1218 who has worked at least 2080 hours in Class 1218 with no break in service; AND
2. Five (5) years of progressively responsible clerical and office experience in the preparation and maintenance of detailed and complex payroll and personnel records and reports including at least four (4) years of responsible supervisory experience.
Substitution:
Completion of thirty (30) semester/fortyfive (45) quarter units of coursework from an accredited college university or business school with a minimum of twelve (120) semester/eighteen (18) quarter units of coursework in business administration accounting mathematics human resources or a closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of the required nonsupervisory experience OR
Possession of a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Certificate issued by the American Payroll Association may substitute for one (1) year of the required nonsupervisory experience.
Note: One year of fulltime employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40hour work week.)

Eligible List/Score Report: A confidential eligible list of qualifying candidates will be created and used for certification purposes only. A score report will be established so applicants can view the ranks final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information including names of applicants on the eligible list shall not be made public unless required by law. However an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this selection process is subject to change after adoption (e.g. because of appeals) as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 6 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
Certification Rule: The certification rule for this selection process will be Rule of the List.
