The Research Ethics Coordinator for the Research Ethics Board (REB) is a key administrative position within the research structure of the University Health Network. The position has both scientific and ethics review functions as well as a liaison function. The Coordinator is responsible for the coordinating and managing all aspects of the submission review revision and approval of research protocols within the University Health Network. The Coordinator must be familiar with experimental design as it applies to biomedical research and be familiar with the most recent ethical standards as captured in the TriCouncil Policy Statement. The Coordinator must be able to communicate and liaise effectively with the REB Cochairs investigators research coordinators and administrative staff throughout UHN as well as with outside groups such as pharmaceutical companies and government agencies. The Coordinator coordinates and supports the REB and its members. The Coordinator must have effective organizational skills and is responsible for supervising the daily maintenance of electronic and paper files. The Coordinator must be able to work independently but under the supervision of the Manager.
Duties and responsibilities of the Research Ethics Coordinator include:
Qualifications :
At minimum a Bachelors degree in a healthrelated field or equivalent combination of education/experience related to clinical trials; Masters preferred
Minimum four (5) years experience in clinical research conducting trials or acting as a research coordinator or monitor
Strong knowledge of most recent TriCouncil Policy and Ethical Conduct for Research involving Human Subjects
Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written)
Strong analytical skills and organizational skills
Computer proficiency
Excellent interpersonal skills and problemsolving skills
Excellent judgment
Ability to use tact and discretion
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment
Must be resourceful
Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice Guidelines would be an asset
