Job Description

Position Title:

Assistant Teaching Professor Civil Engineering

$97437$108309 depending on experience education and qualifications

Purpose:

The Department of Civil Environmental and Sustainable Engineering at Santa Clara University (SCU) a Jesuit Catholic university seeks applications for a fulltime position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor position beginning in Fall 2025. The position will focus predominantly on solid mechanics lectures and labs though the candidate may also be assigned other relevant courses as needed. Responsibilities include teaching seven quarterlong engineering courses over three academic quarters scholarship or professional activities that support intellectual growth as an engineer and service to the Department College and
University.


Assistant Teaching Professors are appointed for a term of three years. Reappointment to subsequent terms and/or promotion to Associate and Full Teaching Professor positions are possible dependent upon three factors: evidence of superior performance in teaching professional activity and service; persistent programmatic need in the curricular area defining the position; and availability of funding.


Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in civil or mechanical engineering

  • Prior experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching universitylevel solid mechanics courses including laboratories

  • The potential to effectively advise and mentor undergraduate civil engineering majors

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to perform meaningful service activities in the Department College University and Profession

  • Ability to engage in professional activities that are appropriate to civil or mechanical engineering and that contribute to their primary responsibility for teaching

  • Ability to work well with others

  • Experience in teaching and mentoring a diverse population of undergraduate students
