Department Description
Our Pension practice specialises in providing pensions advice to companies and trustees of large pension funds. The practice also acts for both buyers and sellers in connection with corporate transactions and advises product providers on the establishment of pension products. Longstanding clients include ITV plc Mars the IndustryWide Coal Schemes and the trustees of the AA pension scheme.
Pensions law and regulation is subject to frequent change. Keeping our fee earners and clients up to date on changes which affect them is an essential part of the pensions knowledge function. Significant legislative and policy change is expected over the coming year so this is likely to be a particularly busy and exciting time.
Role Overview
The role requires a high degree of professionalism both externally and with the cohort. The candidate will have exposure to a wide range of senior people including partners and experienced lawyers who supervise and manage trainee solicitors and solicitor apprentices.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Working closely with the Pensions Knowledge Counsel and BD manager:
Helping the team keep up to date on all aspects of pension law including obtaining copies of relevant documents.
Research tasks and helping members of the team locate information.
Comparing new versions of legislation and other documents with previous drafts.
Maintaining hard copy and electronic pension research files.
Maintenance of pension know how intranet ensuring that new documents are uploaded promptly
Knowhow gathering from the pension group.
Maintenance of electronic and hard copy research files.
Compiling fortnightly notes for a pensions partner to assist with our pensions Newsbeat podcast.
Arranging and editing the recording of pensions podcasts; drafting appropriate introductory wording for the pensions podcasts.
Proof reading the client newsletter and other publications.
Ensuring the timely publication of pension newsletters and podcasts on the Hogan Lovells website via direct mailing and on LinkedInliaising with the BD and Interaction teams.
Assistance with the HL pensions LinkedIn account; posting new developments and suggesting posts for other members of the team.
Organisation of group meetings (fortnightly update meetings and fortnightly speaker meetings) taking minutes preparing handouts.
Responsible role organising client seminars (under supervision) liaising with the BD and events team.
Assisting the group social committee organising meetings and social events liaising with various external establishments and managing the group appropriate help as required with our work.
Occasional help to other members of the pension group or elsewhere within the firm as required.
Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure staff location or services.
All members of the firm participate in our Responsible Business program.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
LPC qualified (BPTC qualification also considered).
Relevant experience an advantage but not a requirement.
General Attributes
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Confidence using social media (in particular LinkedIn).
Strong organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently in a fastpaced environment without direct supervision and coordinate multiple projects.
Ability to respond promptly to requests for assistance or information.
Ability to work as part of a team and to develop constructive relationships with support services.
Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and PowerPoint preferred though training can be given.
Flexibility for additional hours as needed.
