Job Description

Band Director Wydown Middle School 1 YEAR ONLY

The School District of Clayton is seeking a studentcentered capable middle school band director to join our band team. The mission of the band program is to provide all students with the musical opportunities and experiences necessary to become consumers creators and/or performers of music.

We are seeking a candidate preferably a woodwind player who will help students acquire fundamental skills and musical expression as well as connect music with other disciplines in the curriculum. The goal is to help students gain musical independence so they may enjoy lifelong musical involvement.

The Successful Candidate:

  • Assists in program scheduling including but not limited to ensemble rehearsals and performances and nonschool performance opportunities (i.e. State Honors Ensembles festivals community events etc.).
  • Represents the District Band program locally throughout the state and nationally.
  • Collaborates with the band staff to establish course goals prepare and implement lesson plans and articulate the curriculum at specific developmental levels including students with disabilities.
  • Collaborates with the band staff to set up and organize their classroom select instructional books musical materials and instruments and accompany students on field trips to recitals music halls and performances.
  • Demonstrates a variety of musical techniques using a variety of methods and procedures to pupils at varying levels of development and various skill levels.
  • Maintains order in the classroom and in conjunction with administrative staff; administers discipline when necessary to achieve proper behavior.
  • Collaborates with the band staff to observe and evaluate pupils work to determine progress make suggestions for improvement that supports individual growth and confer with student parent and counselor to resolve student problems.
  • Collaborates with the band staff to plan supervise and coordinate student performances and concerts.
  • Keeps records of academic performance attendance and social acclimation. Reports on all aspects of student development for school records and parents; conducts parentteacher conferences on both a regularly scheduled and asneeded basis.
  • Consults with other professionals where there appears to be evidence of learning disabilities drug or alcohol abuse or problems of social adjustment. Coordinates with parents concerning any specialized intervention that appears warranted. Reports cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.
  • Assumes responsibility for the effective functioning of the school to include necessary noninstructional assignments and student management throughout the entire building.
  • Participates in faculty meetings educational conferences professional training seminars and workshops.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested by superiors such as sponsoring a student organization or activity.

Education: Bachelors degree in music required. Masters degree preferred. Must have demonstrated expertise in the area of musical concentration.

Certification: Missouri teacher certification with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.

Experience: Preferred.
