Job Description
THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is actively seeking dedicated and conscientious Nurse Aids for State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands. In addition to housing general population inmates we serve as the Commonwealths provider to inmates with medical special needs including longterm care personal care wheelchair dialysis and geriatric inmates as well as provide programming for inmates who are placed into the State Drug Treatment Program and Short Sentence Parole. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Nurses Aide under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse you will provide care in the following areas: Skilled Care Personal Care Outpatient and General Population. Some of the daily duties include but are not limited to:
- Complete basic nursing skills and nursing procedures to maintain optimum inmate health and provide quality care.
- Complete documentation as required.
- Collect specimens as directed by the Registered Nurse for urine feces and sputum.
- Complete or assist inmates with daily living activities and hygiene to ensure basic physical care needs are met.
- Participate in Life Skills programming by: following nursing care plan orders; providing care/interventions consistent with inmates needs; documenting on assigned aspects of nursing care plan.
- Participate in emergency situations by: performing emergency procedures as indicatedCPR obstructed airway; participating in emergency response drills as assigned.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Fulltime employment
- The Department of Corrections is staffed by three work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year.
- 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM; 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM; and 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM. 8 hour shifts rotating off days.
- Work hours TO BE DETERMINED.
- Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
- Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.
Special Requirement:
- This position is assigned to a longterm or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
