General Summary:
The Elementary Library Paraprofessional provides for the wellorganized operation of the elementary Library Learning Center. The Elementary Library Paraprofessional reports to the building Principal with coordination of program responsibilities provided by the prek to 5 Teacher Librarian used at the state level.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes literature and the love or reading through reading aloud to students book talks and fairs author studies enrichment programs and reading guidance.
- Works with principals and teachers to establish a schedule for the use of the learning center with additional flexible time available.
- Assists in the instruction needed for use of LLC materials to include: computers reference materials the Dewey Decimal System Internet computer ethics OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) and audio/visual technology as it relates to the LLC and school.
- Researches and assembles materials (print nonprint interschool loan) for teachers and students to support curriculum.
- Assists teacher with appropriate conduct of students.
- Selects LLC materials (print and nonprint) supplies and equipment. Submit consideration forms based on review sources and needs of their collection to preK to 5 Teacher Librarian for approval or to rework.
- Manages circulation compiles bibliographies for staff and provides interlibrary loans.
- Maintains librarylearning collection and other curricular materials including shelving regular shelf reading repairs weeding and discards.
- Learns and coordinates use of information technologies in support of information literacy.
- Regulates library site budget accounts.
- Performs clerical duties including statistical reports shelf lists files biweekly reports overdue notices/bills mail and word processing.
- Conducts inventory. Compiles inventory reports and yearend statistics.
- Attends K5 Library inservice meetings site and district inservices conferences and continuing education workshops and implements district library initiatives.
- Assists other Library Paraprofessionals with automated library software new upgrades and manuals.
- Recruits trains and supervises adult and student volunteers in the LLC.
- Trains substitutes. Maintains a current substitute file and provides substitute lesson plans.
- Participates in site functions/committees as requested.
- Performs other LLC duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
- College degree and/or previous relevant work experience required.
- Possesses knowledge of and demonstrates an enthusiasm for literature.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with students and adults.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to work independently.
- Demonstrates proficiency in spelling grammar and information technologies.
- Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on detail and time management.
- Dependable reliable and protective of sensitive/confidential information.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Familiarity with audiovisual technology and automated library systems.
- Knowledge of Dewey Decimal and MARC systems.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis.
- Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
- Duties include frequent walking and physical activity as well as use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying. Must have the ability to move about the classroom/building and school property including bending pushing/pulling lifting twisting climbing stooping or crouching to complete workrelated tasks with and without students.
- The ability to listen and effectively orally communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.

Environmental Conditions:
Incumbents work in indoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures including work on slippery and/or uneven surfaces. Work environment includes working around students school equipment and office equipment.
Work Schedules:
Must be available to report during the school year consistent with the districts school year calendar.
