POSITION TITLE: Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball / Head 9thGrade Boys Basketball Coach with Teaching Assignment
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: K12 AR Teaching License
Appropriate certification through Arkansas Activities Association/NFHS Coaches Education Program
REPORTS TO: Building Level Principal Athletic Director Head Coach
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:220 days with benefits according to Siloam Springs School Board policies
Essential Coaching Functions:
- Display loyalty to the head coach principal athletic director and the athletic department.
- Supervise athletes and assigned team.
- Help plan and supervise any special needs/events (awards night parent meeting community service etc.).
- Make suggestions and recommendations that will help the program.
- Teach and model good sportsmanship towards opponents officials and parents.
- Support and collaborate with staff in other athletic and academic programs to encourage students to participate in a variety of activities.
- Follow rules and regulations in the Siloam Springs Athletic Department Coaches and AAA Handbooks.
- Monitor the academic performance of team members.
- Help plan and conduct daily practices for assigned team.
- Attend preseason organizational meetings as assigned by the athletic director.
- Assist in organizing and running of invitational or AAA tournaments and regular season meets.
- Attend professional development activities and remain current to new coaching strategies.
- Attend all interscholastic contests for assigned team.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Create an engaging classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Be open to instructional coaching and feedback.
- Implementa variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students.
- Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
- Participate in curriculum review and design.
- Effectively implement district initiatives.
- Effectively collaborate with department and subjectlevel teachers to improve instruction and learning.
- Complete required data entry in the AR Seamless WBL platform for DCTE to pull the Career Practicum Placement reports.
- Use reflection form to obtain feedback and evaluation of experience for students engaged in WBL.
Other Job Functions:
- Abide by state statutes school board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment
- materials and facilities.
- Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy
and administrative regulation. - Serve on committees as assigned.
- Remain current on instructional practices in education and coaching.
- Other duties as assigned.
