Job Description

Job Description: Secondary Special Education Program Assistant

Primary Purpose:

Plans and directs in coordination with school and district administration the development implementation and evaluation of Special Education and Section 504 programs processes and support services. Assists in the implementation and coordination of resources to maintain improve and align special education programs across the district. Facilitates the planning organization and/or presentation of staff development programs at the school and district level. Assists and supports school and district special education improvement efforts to focus on student outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with school and district staff stakeholders and partners to ensure that the equity vision of success for every student is achieved with high expectations and quality instruction.
  • Initiates plans and conducts training for staff to refine service provision and classroom management in order to bring about desired student outcomes.
  • Assists in planning and conducting activities and programs for special education staff new to their assignment as a mentor teacher would or who require additional support.
  • Acts as an instructional and special education resource for administrators
    licensed and classified staff.
  • Assists with the Early Childhood Special Education transitions Extended School Year process and Community Transition Programs.
  • Assists and consults in placement determinations student observations IEP
    development assessment procedures file reviews vocational services and
    behavioral training.
  • Utilizes philosophical principles and techniques of the districtadopted behavior
    management system to promote a positive and safe school climate.
  • Assists with data collection monitoring and analysis for school district state and federal reporting.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to classified licensed and administrative staff members.
  • Collaborates with school and district teams for the purpose of implementation of an effective MTSS framework to support timely and appropriate referrals for special services.
  • Plans for and develops programs to address the needs of students by consultation with District personnel community members parents and governmental agencies.
  • Prioritizes multiple tasks in order to be responsive to staff and school needs that arise using school district and state data.
  • Provides consultation services to support effective intervention practices the use of appropriate educational resources identifying appropriate assessment procedures and data collection.
  • Assists in the development of long and shortrange plans/programs and budgets (e.g. instructional materials new programs etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that resources are effectively utilized expenditures are within budget and district educational objectives are achieved.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.



Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications Skills Knowledge Abilities Certificates & Licensure

SKILLS. High level skill proficiency in collecting organizing and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data; preparing graphical presentations of information preparing and maintaining accurate records; using pertinent software applications; and communicating with all stakeholder groups (including staff students families external partners and the community).

KNOWLEDGE is required to review and interpret highly technical information write technical materials and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required of the following to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes Special Education 504 RTI PBIS MTSS SEL culturally responsive instruction; evidencebased academic behavior social and emotional intervention strategies; and whole child programming.

ABILITY is required to communicate with diverse groups; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines and schedules; set priorities; work as part of a team; work with detailed information/data; work with frequent interruption; provide staff development as it relates to special education and Section 504; being fair and consistent with a strong sense of empathy; and interpret and comply with laws rules policies and trends regarding education and instruction. Ability to perform multiple highly complex technical tasks with a need to continually upgrade skills and knowledge base.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: Generally the job requires 30% sitting 30% walking and 40% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience

Experience as a licensed educator in the field of special education minimum of 5 years of professional experience

Certificates & Licensure

Current Oregon teaching specialist and/or Administrator License.

CPR/First Aid Certificate
