Position: Special Education Coordinator (Elementary Level) Anticipated Opening
Summary:
Wakefield Public Schools seeks a highly qualified Elementary Special Education Coordinator to join our dedicated team. Wakefield has four elementary schools: two larger schools with approximately 450 students each and two smaller schools with approximately 220 students each.
Working alongside another Elementary Special Education Coordinator the person in this position will monitor compliance with special education processes supervise and support specialized programming and evaluate personnel. In addition this position will play a key role in curriculum development and implementation ensuring highquality standardsaligned instruction across special education programs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with school and district administrators instructional leaders and special education staff to ensure the provision of Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
- Oversee special education programming at the elementary level and assist in the development or expansion of programs to meet student needs
- Provide curriculum oversight and implementation support for programbased special education teachers; assist in selecting and aligning instructional materials and resources
- Monitor and improve regulatory compliance across all areas of special education service delivery
- Chair Team meetings including initial evaluations and reevaluations
- Supervise and support Special Education Liaisons in managing rosters caseloads scheduling and IEP development
- Review IEPs for quality and compliance before distribution; provide feedback and guidance to special education teachers
- Consult with and support teachers and related service providers in developing and implementing effective datadriven IEPs
- Oversee student progress monitoring systems and support staff in developing meaningful measurable goals and objectives
- Review Progress Reports and provide targeted feedback to improve quality and consistency
- Support the development and delivery of professional development focused on instructional best practices curriculum use and compliance
- Collaborate with the existing Elementary Coordinator on districtlevel planning transitions (PreK to Kindergarten and Grade 4 to 5) and the overall effectiveness of elementary special education programs
Work Year: 205 days
Compensation: Commensurate with Wakefield Administrators Association (WAA) contract
Reports To: Administrator of Special Education and Student Services
Education / Experience:
- Masters degree or equivalent in the field of Education
- Successful professional practice or administrative experience in Special Education preferred
Certifications License Registrations:
- Massachusetts Teaching License in Special Education
- Massachusetts Supervisor/Directors License
