Job Description

Note: This is a contract position with a September 2026 end date.

The Project Manager uses skills as a seasoned experienced professional with a full understanding of necessary project management skills developing presenting and disseminating written and other forms of information to the applicable quality improvement and research team. The individual demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to identify and address challenges and proposes solutions. Utilizes strong writing communication and organizational skills to engage stakeholders in program deliverables to track and adhere to the program timelines and to communicate with both the project team and if appropriate to the funder.

The UCSF Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) has multiple quality improvement and research initiatives that support the University and the Departments vision of exploring better health for vulnerable patient populations. This position will support two externally funded quality improvement projects through the projects lifecycle: Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center Emergency Department Alternatives to Opioids (ZSFG EDALT) program and the Project FRIEND Connect program. ZSFG EDALT is a program with goals to improve the use of nonopioid alternatives for pain control in the ZSFG emergency department. Project FRIEND Connect promotes ongoing linkage of outpatients with opioid use disorder to care via provision of patient navigation and contingency management. Both programs have overarching goals of decreasing the impact of opioid use on the wider SF community.

With oversight from the quality improvement and research team the Program Manager will assist with administrative tasks including IRB submissions scheduling materials development and preparation research and program planning monitoring data collection oversight and quality assurance and drafting reports to sponsors. The incumbent may at times assist with data gathering generation interpretation and synthesis; disseminating findings including through writing reports and manuscripts public speaking and presenting results including in local public forums and national meetings; and developing and maintaining strong professional partnerships with the internal research team site administrators external partners and funders. The Program Manager attends programrelated meetings takes and disseminates notes arranges meeting logistics and tracks due dates and project milestones.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $80200 $120300 (Annual Rate).

  • Minimum 3 years of related experience

    Department Description
    The Department of Emergency Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) provides emergency medical care to patients 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The department treats approximately 85 000 patients annually including critically ill and injured patients as well as patients with nonacute conditions. Academic faculty and staff physicians provide medical coverage in the Emergency Department and supervise clinical training of residents interns and medical students who rotate through the department on regular basis. Altogether the department supports the activities of 70 faculty members and over 300 housestaff and students each year.
