Job Description
Job Summary:
The Special Education Paraprofessional supports the instructional and behavioral goals of students with disabilities by working under the direct supervision of a certified special education teacher or related service provider. The paraprofessional assists in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) provides academic and behavioral support and ensures the safety and wellbeing of students in a variety of settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist students with academic tasks as directed by the special education teacher.
Implement behavior management strategies and support positive behavior interventions.
Support students in general education classrooms special education classrooms or other settings including transitions between locations.
Provide oneonone or small group instruction as needed.
Assist with personal care needs including feeding toileting and hygiene as required by student IEPs.
Collect and document data on student progress and behavior as directed.
Support communication between students and staff using assistive technology or communication devices if needed.
Supervise students during noninstructional times including recess lunch and transportation (bus duty) when assigned.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and school policies.
Participate in training and professional development opportunities related to special education and student needs.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator.
