Music & Art Teacher Location: Lafayette Salary:MinimumBase$50000 Position Type: FullTime Role and Responsibilities Reporting to the Principal the PSOE Music/Art Teacher is responsible for direct instruction through curriculum implementation lesson planning data disaggregation and classroom management. Additional responsibilities include maintaining compliance with individual student Education Plans Section 504 Plans etc. They will ensure operational and functional knowledge of best practices in education state and federal education law FERPA and FAPE law parent relations behavioral management documenting and reporting and processdriven accountability.
The Music/Art Teacher is responsible for teaching music education to pupils in grades K6 and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. Helps pupils grow in their enjoyment appreciation and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing moving to music playing instruments and listening. They will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of will also perform other duties directly related to this job description.
Curriculum Instruction - Teaches skills in music understanding/appreciation harmony explorations in music and choral music to elementary students.
- Plans/executes a balanced music program and organizes class time so that preparation rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Encourages students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
- Maintains care/responsibility for schoolowned music musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
- Evaluates each students musical growth performance and musical understanding. Assesses each individuals contribution to the performance of the group.
- Knowledge and skills in art including drawing painting lettering and art history.
- Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school.
- Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
- Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting.
- Understand the versatility of acrylic paints: dry brushing staining layering underpainting and monoprinting.
- Understand a variety of masters techniques.
- Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art.
- Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media technique.
- Provide individual and smallgroup instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of studentswith varying intellectual and artistic abilities and to accommodate a variety of instructionalactivities.
- Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
- Organize storage areas and control use of materials equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse and minimize time required for distribution and collection.
- Evaluate each students performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings and prepare progress reports.
- Select and requisition books instructional materials tools instructional aids and maintain required inventory records.
- Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students work for the school and the community.
- May sponsor exhibits from outside the school.
Responsibilities - Provides direct instruction in wholeclass small group and individual settings.
- Utilizes datadriven instruction and PSOE educational frameworks to ensure delivery of standards driven instruction to all students.
- Completes assessments grading planning and conferences with students staff and families within appropriate timelines.
- Utilizes oversight by team lead Elite Teachers Special Education Director school counselor and other subcontracted professional staff/outside agencies as needed to identify and understand strategies for support and instruction of students with exceptional needs.
- Ensures appropriate classroom implementation of BIPs FBAs IEPs and 504 programs.
- Completes any additional reporting as requested by Special Education Director or counselor.
- Develops and maintains regular family communication and community partnerships.
- Completes reports and followup documentation as required by administration.
- Keeps updated and documented cumulative folders as ongoing case files for all current students.
- Contributes to a strong school education team: serves on school and/or community committees; seeks participation and involvement with direction for ongoing local operations.
- Acts as a professional advisor to the team lead/elite teacher on all aspects of school classroom activities.
- Abides by all PSOE frameworks as approved by the executive director and as noted in the staff handbook.
- Maintains ongoing consistent and supportive communication for the classroom as noted in the schools frameworks.
- Assumes all roles as delegated for a variety of school functions for the purpose of managing the team workload more efficiently.
- Utilizes effective systems as delegated to troubleshoot problems track progress and regularly evaluate workflow components so as to measure progress in a way that can be effectively communicated to the team lead/elite teacher.
Program planning and management - Contributes to the organizations mission and reflects the priorities of the school.
- Selects appropriate music books and instructional aids to enhance learning and requisitions musical instruments and instructional supplies as necessary.
- Cooperation with Building Principal and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies open house parent meetings and seasonal programs.
- Is prepared to assist in the planning implementation execution and evaluation of special projects.
Human resources planning and management - Establishes a positive healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations including FERPA FAPE Section 504 and Special Education.
Qualifications and Education Requirements The Classroom Teacher will be thoroughly committed to the PSOE mission. Prior successful fulltime education experience in a similar setting is preferred. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include: - Valid Indiana State Teaching License or equivalent.
- Bachelors degree in field of education.

Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The Classroom Teacher usually works in standard classrooms but will frequently be required to complete tasks in in a wide variety of locations within the school campus. The Classroom Teacher works a standard workweek but additionally may work evenings weekends and any additional hours necessary to accommodate activities such as committees fundraisers public meetings and representing the organization at public events.
