JOB TITLE:School Social Worker
REPORTS TO: Mental Health & Wellness Coordinator

GENERAL DUTIES SUMMARY:
This position works in partnership with school staff to provide services related to a students social emotional and life adjustment to school and/or society. The school social worker links home school and community in providing direct as well as indirect services to students families and school personnel to promote and support students academic and social success.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES:
No supervisory activities or responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Social Worker works with the problems in a childs living situation (home school and community) that affect the childs adjustment in school; provides counseling therapeutic checkins and skills training for students and families; and mobilizes family school and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in their educational program.
- Services to Students:Identifies social emotional and psychological barriers to student achievement and develops intervention strategies to address them; provides crisis intervention; provides counseling and therapeutic meetings with individuals groups and families; develops and facilitates student psychoeducational groups; helps develop intervention strategies to increase academic success; provides students with skillbuilding interventions including the areas of social interactions anxiety and depression emotional regulation understanding self and others.
- Services to Parent/Caregiver/Families:Works with parents/caregivers to facilitate their support in their childrens school adjustment; assists parents/caregivers to access and utilize appropriate community mental health services and other communitybased resources and serves as a liaison to community agencies in coordinating and managing their delivery; provides case management for students and families requiring multiple resources or encountering barriers to resources.
- Services to School Personnel:Provides staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural societal economic familial health etc.) affecting a students performance and behavior.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Social Worker works independently following standardized routines under general supervision. The nature of the work requires adherence to policies procedures and regulations. This job requires frequent interaction both with students and families who may be in situations of distress and as such requires a high level of professional decorum excellent judgment and the ability to perform under moderately stressful conditions.
Minimum:
- Masters degree in Social Work
- Current LCSW License or TSPC School Social Worker License or TSPC Restricted School Social Worker License or have eligibility for a TSPC Restricted School Social Worker License.
- Ability to demonstrate effective skills in group facilitation organizational dynamics and consensus building.
- Ability to advocate model and support implementation of districtlevel initiatives around racial equity and culturally responsive practices.
- Ability to develop and implement professional development trainings for certified and classified school personnel.
- Ability to travel to school sites to work with students and staff.
Preferred:
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with mental health assessment and treatment for children youth and families.
- Experience collaborating with school systems and mental health providers.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between TigardTualatin School District 23J and Tigard Tualatin Education Association.
