SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Sheriff or the Chief Deputy in his absence the Captain is responsible for planning organizing and implementing the operations and programs of the Correctional Center. The Captain is also responsible for providing leadership and supervision to employees and inmates by managing operations personnel services and programs within the Correctional Center. This position is responsible for providing efficient and effective operation of the Correctional Center while meeting all safety security statute and constitutional requirements.
This position ensures compliance with federal and state laws pertaining to the operations of a correctional facility as well as ensuring constitutional rights of those incarcerated are not infringed upon through extensive review of case law and correctional standards both state and federal. This position provides expertise direction and planning for the continuation of correctional services for Grand Forks County under the direction of the Sheriff.
Provides emergency inmate supervision level 2. Absent sufficient staffing for operations of the Grand Forks County Correctional Center at the Sergeant and below level. Position may require the employee to work nights weekends and holidays.

STATUS AND HOURS: This is a fulltime appointed position (based on 40 hours per week) benefit eligible. There might be a variation of work hours and days to support the agency and County needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Fouryear degree in Criminal Justice or related field from an accredited university. An appropriate combination of education and experience may be substituted for a degree.
Experience: Twelve (12) or more years of corrections or law enforcement with a minimum of five (5) years of supervisor experience. Must have attained the rank of Sergeant or greater in current or previous law enforcement or correctional role or be deemed eligible by the Sheriff.
Requirements: CO Basic Certified. Possession of a valid drivers license prior to and during employment.
Salary Range: $90319.86 $128774.51 annually (DOE) with excellent benefits (benefit information below).
