JOB TITLE:Assistant Choir Director High School

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The High School Assistant Choir Director is responsible for implementing the District choir programs and educational philosophy of choral music for grades nine through twelve in cooperation with the Head Choir Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
Preferred:
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Knowledge of overall operation of vocal music program
- Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing choir and extracurricular activities
- Ability to interpret policy procedures and data
- Strong communication public relations and interpersonal skills
MAJOR REPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Organizes the instruction of the choral music for the choirs and/or sections assigned.
- Coordinates with the Head Choir Director to assure a consistent developmental program with the District curriculum.
- Encourages all students to develop their individual musical abilities.
- Provides classroom and performance experiences which encourage responsibility selfdiscipline and respect for group participation.
- Provides encouragement and information for talented students considering music as a profession.
- Maintains accurate records of student progress and attendance.
- Assists in the operation of the choir program.
- Cooperates with the private lesson programs.
- Assists in scheduling participating and preparing for performances programs and competitions.
- Assists in supervising rehearsals.
- Assists with maintaining repairing and distributing schoolowned equipment and uniforms.
- Assists with record keeping for funds received and disbursed.
- Assists with the selection of music and maintenance of the choir library.
- Assists with suggestions for budgeting and requisition.
- Cooperates in sponsoring the competitive aspects of the program.
- Assists with preparation of students for competition.
- Assists with transportation and supervision of students during performances and competitions.
- Assists with plans for informing parents about performances and competitions.
- Assists with plans for reporting results of competitions.
- Exemplifies citizenship sportsmanship and professionalism in behavior and performance of duties.
- Promotes community understanding of the music program through communication with parents and concern for students.
- Assists in working with the Choir Booster organizations.
- Remains current in the area of choral music education through professional organizations literature workshops and inservice programs.
- Complies with the position description for the classroom teacher.
- Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the Principal the Head Choir Director and the Director of Performing and Visual Arts.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility standing prolonged sitting some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling. Frequent district and occasional statewide travel; prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor and indoor work; exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
