Definition of Classification:
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible fostering a positive and productive work environment and will provide clientcentered support for day to day Human Resources (HR) needs including but not limited to employee relations retention policy interpretation and resource management. The HR Generalist is an essential role within HR and Employee Relations Team ensuring compliance with university policies and all federal state and local employment laws. The role serves as a resource for employees and people leaders. This HR Generalist requires strong interpersonal and problemsolving skills to address workplace concerns facilitate conflict resolution and promote a culture of inclusivity and fairness. The HR Generalist will partner with HR Leadership and support the performance management system process which will include goal setting and annual evaluations. This key role will also support the professional development and program development for individual contributors and people leaders.
The role requires welldeveloped verbal and written skills to present and exchange information which is technical complex and sensitive to all faculty staff and students on campus. Work on an independent basis under strict timelines subject to change under supervisor direction
for performs the more routine functions of technical and analytical human resources functions in the areas of recruitment and selection position classification compensation administration benefits administration and other phases of human resources; participates in training in order to learn more responsible work; and performs other related duties as required.
Reporting to the Director Human Resources or designee provides cross functional support in a variety of activities to meet departmental goals and objectives. This position plans and carries out work independently and with minimum supervision is responsible for prioritizing and managing issues within designated area of responsibility and is responsible for managing work and project schedules to meet objectives deadlines and assignments.
Duties and Responsibilities:

The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for supporting and implementing Human Resources administration of strategies programs processes and policies among assigned departments programs and schools
Provide day to day HR support to research explain and provide information and response to HR related inquiries in a timely manner
Act as liaison between employees and people leaders to answer questions or concerns regarding University policies and practices
Handle termination/offboarding process and related matters
Recommend and develop employee relations practices to foster a positive employeremployee relation
Support supervisors and managers in addressing performance concerns disciplinary actions and policy interpretations. Serve as an advisor to employees supervisors and administrators on workplace concerns policies and procedures.
Develop and maintain employee evaluation and development plans; including tracking performance evaluation completions and coaching managers on conducting performance reviews.
Develop and deliver training programs on workplace policies conflict resolution performance management and related topics.
Maintain a continuous supervisor training program regarding the Colleges policies and procedures human resources practices laws and changes.
Collaborating with dedicated HR teams and colleagues in specialty administrative areas such as leaves benefits workers compensation recruitment and HR projects and initiatives to help provide the endtoend HR solutions to meet the needs of faculty staff and students
Provides daily handson human resources expertise to the university in the areas of employee relations recruiting and onboarding employee development training compensation benefits organizational development and more provides backup HR business support to other businesses locally as required.
Organize training sessions and workshops to help employees acquire new skills and knowledge relevant to their roles. Manage resources such as training materials budgets and external trainers to ensure effective delivery of development programs
Maintain employee personnel and recruitment records in accordance with applicable laws and bargaining agreements protecting confidentiality of records at all times
Monitor and evaluate existing personnel procedures and policies related to recruitment make recommendations for changes as appropriate and assist the HR Leadership Team in ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Maintain uptodate knowledge of a variety of laws and regulations relating to personnel and employment practices
Maintain uptodate knowledge of federal state and local employment law and compliance requirements
Assist in the overall work of the department by providing back up support as directed
Performs Other Duties and Special Projects as Required/Assigned
Generates official internal documents such as offer letters appointment letters and compensation changes.
Creates onboarding plans and educating newly hired employees on HR policies internal procedures and regulations.
Maintains physical and digital files for employees and their documents benefits and attendance records.
Creates employee engagement plans getting necessary budget approval and initiating activities.
Collaborates with outside vendors upper management and employees to maintain University standards.
Evaluates employee performance and appraises their pay scale accordingly.
Processes documentation and prepares reports relating to performance evaluations.
Meets with hiring authorities and search committees to discuss hiring needs for regular and contracted employees graduate assistants/management interns and temporaries; coordinates timelines advertising strategies prepares job postings and advertisements and interview questions.
Full cycle recruitment conducts initial screening of applicants and resumes for open staff and administrator positions to determine the eligibility of candidates by meeting minimum qualifications.
Schedules and participates in interviews; completes reference checks; makes job offers and negotiates salary.
Assists with the implementation of company safety and health programs; tracks and posts OSHA required data and files reports.
Maintains employeerelated databases; prepares and analyzes reports that are necessary to carry out the functions of the department and university; and prepares periodic reports for management as necessary or requested.
Administers and monitors FMLACFRA ADA and Workers Compensation and OSHA reporting requirements.
Handles recruitment process by identifying candidates conducting reference checks and issuing employment practices.
Collaborates with outside recruiters temporary agencies and other thirdparty services.
Processes payroll notifications for new hires terminations transfers and status changes.
Communicates on/off boarding information to appropriate business partners within HR and campus offices.
Prepares new hire and exit documents and conducts new hire orientation.
Supports maintenance of personnel database by hiring and terminating employees and changing existing information.
Provides backup to department being crossed trained to conduct new hire and benefits orientation benefit administration workers comp and unemployment benefits exit interviews and COBRA as needed.
Assists with the annual and introductory performance evaluation process; offers training and assistance as needed.
Monitors and audits accuracy of transactions in HRIS systems to ensure proper interface with benefits and payroll functions.
May oversee and participate in the daytoday maintenance and administration of the department website/webpages.
Performs all other related duties and responsibilities as directed or assigned.

Working Conditions:
Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

HIRING RANGE:Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification commensurate with candidates education experience skills and training. The University of Redlands is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience skills knowledge abilities education licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is defined as theHiring Range. Placement within the Hiring Range is determined by internal equity and relevant qualifications.
BACKGROUND CHECK:Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMS:For certain positions typically in Public Safety Facilities Athletics and Information Technology Services departments employment is contingent upon a candidate passing a preemployment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 Safety Officers in addition to a preemployment physical exam will also be required to pass a psychological evaluation.
